I haven't a clue. But I do love the photo and the bird's ingenuity.

Neato!

Looks like an Acorn Woodpecker. A friend has Downey WPs drinking at the HB feeder. I have House Finches doing it.
Great capture!

I thought I saw a downy WP nectaring on a trumpet vine, but thought I must be going crazy. Thanks for posting! That is a really cool looking woodpecker by the way. Don't see those here in SE PA.

Very typical. One place I lived, I had families of red-headed woodpeckers, another woodpecker whose name escapes me, and two different kinds of nuthatches all eating daily at my seed feeder, hanging upside down.

Beautiful Acorn woodpecker. Candy

Hi absolutely gorgeous picture. Definately an "Acorn Woodpecker".
"Prefer suet, all types of sunflower, peanut butter, hulled peanuts. Also eats dried fruit, sugar from hummingbird feeders. Stores acorn in dead trees."
"Males entire crown is red," yours is a female.

If you are not, you should be a professional photographer.

Thanks, There're 3, a family I think, & they take turns. The hummers don't seem to mind. But when I found that one of the lil plastic flowers was missing, I worried that one of the woodpeckers was going around with a plastic flower stuck on it's beak & it would starve. Found it in the garden a few daze later, whew. Peg
