Thanks for sharing.Getting my feeders ready. Will be about a week. Lot colder then normal.Been looking for nests.Have many tall ever greens (think) they nest there.

My female is sooo focused! First nesting fledged (6) on Thursday May 10th, I got the nestbox cleaned out asap because I know this female is very quick to start the second nesting (she is the same female we had the last two years). She started the second nest on Friday and laid the first egg this morning! I couldn't believe only four days inbetween fledging and laying another egg! Dad is still busy feeding the fledglings which are in our woods, haven't seen any of them yet, hopefully by this coming weekend I will get some glimpses of them and maybe tell how many made it. Two were non flyers so I am not sure about those two, especially with the mom focused on the second nesting and not on her fledglings. Donna

Orrin, Well, nothing that outrageous, but it was a challenge. At 120 yards, my Lumix was pretty useless. I borrowed a Fuji 80 mm spotting scope set to 20x, and put my Canon G3 up to the eyepiece and took pictures. After some fooling around with the settings on the camera, I started getting some good results. Photoshop helps too. I should have some better ones soon- Jeff

I feel bad about taking the nests down, especially considering all the work they put into it, but after seeing the cooked eggs in there the one year I kind of wondered how they felt. Maybe they just don't care. Gotta give 'em credit though, they're persistent! I didn't think about a rubber snake or something. I used to tack a piece of cardboard up just setting on the sensor unit up to the house. At first I thought they might try to build under it, but they didn't. Looked tacky, but it worked. And I have to go check the dryer vent too. They built in there one year too. I really jumped when the bird poked its head out at me the one day! I noticed some grass hanging and I went to pull it away and the vent pops open and the bird sticks its head out! Then pops back in. Maybe they thought I was selling something or a religious recruiter! All I know is she made it clear: GO AWAY! :)
