This insect is infesting my room. what is it?

It's been almost a month that i'm having some sort of weird flying insect all over my room.
at first i thought it's mosquitoes which is normal this time of year, and usually they go away when i use some sort of commercial insecticide.
but these things aren't going away.
i only notice them at night, they're small and almost brown, they can fly but not as fast as a mosquito ie: i can grab them while in thin air. or if they're on my desk or something, i can put my finger over them without them being alarmed or flying away.

sometimes i find them on my hand, or crawling on my desk and especially my laptop. this rendered my room to be inhabitable, im actually sleeping somewhere else for the time being.

i've took a few pictures with my phone, they're not clear but this is the best i could do.

PS: when i catch one, it immediately shrinks (even if i don't kill it)

It is a beetle of some sort. Unfortunately, there are only 300-400,000 species to choose from so I have no idea what it would be. It doesn't look like a weevil or dermestid, which would be the only ones I would worry about in my house.

Hi Jean, I suspect it to be chewing as I don't know what sucking would look like and it seems to have un evened the surface of the plant. Plant doesn't seem to be reacting at all. Probably found 25-30 total (plant is over 2 ft. tall) Really? Its the only one out of three with the issue... Steve

That looks like a fungus, some sort of rust, rather than an insect. You don’t say where you are located but in the northern hemisphere it’s winter and sun chokes can be cut to the ground. Burn the old stems and foliage and clear up any material that falls to the ground. If you can’t burn wrap and put in the trash,

You don't have to wait for a frost before harvesting. Doesn't really make any difference to the tubers although those that eat them raw claim they are sweeter after a light frost. But they should be fully mature and usable now. The alternative - and one that probably makes the most sense - is just to cut back the plants now, get rid of the diseased foliage and leave the tubers in the ground until you need them. Apparently they do not store well out of the ground but can last pretty much all winter in the soil. And in z7, there is little concern about soil freezing, so they will remain accessible. In full disclosure, while I have grown Jerusalem artichokes, it was completely unintentional and with no intent or desire to harvest the tubers. The plant was just sold as a perennial sunflower, which it is. It wasn't until after growing them a season and recognizing how aggressively they spread and how hard they were to control that I realized my mistake :-)) Took me about five years to finally get rid of them......not a plant for an ornamental flower garden!!

Looks like one of the carpet beetle species.
