Name This Animal

Can you help identify this animal?

Hi,
The other day we saw this animal near the sea. It looked afraid, but we were too. It was no bigger than a cat. But had a long tail. Took the photo with my phone so not a great shot. We live near the Aegean Sea. The creature itself looks amphibious. Can you please help us identify this animal? We are scared to swim near this area now. Is it a dangerous species?

It might help if you could at least narrow it down to what continent it was seen on.
It is a lizard, clearly. It might be one of the spiny-tailed Iguanas (Ctenosaura) or even some sort of Old World lizard in the family Agamidae. There introduced populations of of both groups in areas of the US and of course they are found in their native countries.

Without knowing where you were there is no way to narrow it down further.

I would consider this as dangerous as a small bunny rabbit, i.e. not at all.

Sorry for not being so clear, but I've said we live near Aegean Sea. We live Bodrum, Turkey.

Thanks again all: Boa is doing much better. She is eating like a horse, but still doesn't want to be left alone. I can't believe the difference in her since I stopped the antibiotics. She demands food now, and her catmilk. Her and Bear got into their first fisticuffs in a long time when I was taking too long to get the food in the dish. She got a huge dish of whipped cream yesterday (her favorite) and didn't leave a smidgen in the bowl for Apache to finish. She is back on the tapazole now for the hyperthyroidism and doesn't even know it's in her food. I am breathing a sigh of relief. I know nothing can live forever, but I can hope. Think she will be with us for a while longer. Praise God for answering my prayers. Jenny

Help Identifying animal scat!

I think it looks like wet soil too. If it's a scat I would not touch it without gloves and an N95 approved mask because it's not "normal" for any animal I know of. What I mean is that IF IT IS poop, it's likely poop from a sick animal and you need to take precautions not only looking at it but collecting it for specimen, allowing children around the area and indeed allowing pets around the area and when discarding of it. This most recent pic is pretty cool for a couple reasons, among them: The larger plant in the middle (and the one to the right in the foreground) is an example of a plant that I repotted in the brief pause after it had fully opened but before it started growing its first fascicle. The smaller plants (mostly out of focus) show individuals left to grow their first fascicles before repotting. Notice how much bigger the other 2 are at the same age!

It looks like the "Starred Agama" (Laudakia stellio) to me.

Completely harmless. It is just a lizard.
