Never seen this bird before (in Tx. Hill Country)

I've lived in the hill country for several years and have NEVER seen this bird here or anywhere. Can anyone help to identify it?

Sorry, no working camera at the moment, so I'll attempt to describe it.

It's about the size of a brown cow bird, but has a longer straight beak. Its wings are kind of a taupe brown as are the tail feathers which fan out a bit, but the rest of the body has large blotches/patches of red and khaki green-brown that seem sort of random in their arrangement. It flipped up it's tail and I saw a red blotch on the underside near the body as well. My first reaction is that it's some kind of hybrid or combination, but that's probably only because it's new to me. It has been enjoying my birth bath and mulberry tree. Any ideas?
