My property has over 100 joshuas on it. This is my opinion, but I'm not a horticulturist or anything. If one of them weighs in, please go by their recommendation! I would mist it once a week in the morning -- I think they get the majority of their water through dew. It really only rains here between October and April and we only get 5 to 7 inches total a year. Their roots rot very quickly. Morning sun. They do better here when they have a nurse plant -- something that blocks the sun during heat of the day. But it's going to be 95 today here and the humidity is 14 percent. In Wisconsin, maybe stick it in a sunny window all day with something to block the late afternoon sun. If you don't already have it in sand, you might want to consider that. They don't like nutritious dirt. I can send you some genuine Mojave Desert sand if you pay the postage. But I'd think sandbox sand would probably work. And you may want to put it in a big pot. Their roots like to spread out a lot. Good luck! It's difficult in the Midwest. Even the joshua in the Morton Arboretum in Chicago looked unhappy when I visited last.

That's looking more and more like the Teneza. Yes, it has small thorns, hardly enough to stick you and they are widely spaced. This photo of my younger tree shows the texture of the bark and the thorns ... New leaves on the younger tree ... The dark green tree in the center of the photo is my more mature tree which is about 18 ft. tall at 12 or more years old ... It can get larger, but is fairly show growing. I saw one on the south side of town that was about 35 ft tall. One of the nicest things about them is they keep their leaves during the winter which is very unusual for this type of tree. The leaves are slightly more sparse, but that's all. Also the blooms are very fragrant. They produce long seed pots which split open as they dry. Is that a bean pod on the lower left of your last photo?

Maybe a Common Grackle? Right now I'm hearing them making a lot of chit..chit.. sounds, alternating with a sort of creaking. Claire

Oh Ok. Well, that splains it then orrin! I am such a bad Warbler ID person. I used to think that Sparrows were difficult, but now I am thinking that the Warblers are worse. They all seem to be green and/or yellow with some brown thrown in for good measure!! Thanks again for your help. I'd have never gotten it.
