YIKES! Carefully place a wastebasket or cooking pot over that snake! then call whoever you call in Cyprus to remove wildlife.

It looks like the local viper, and they are poisonous.

This is not a viper,

It is a Cat Snake (Telloscopus fallax), a harmless species. They are technically rear-fanged and mildly venomous, but present no threat to humans or pets (unless you have pet lizards ;-)).

I considered Cat Snakes but all the examples I could find were more strongly banded.

Except, of course, for this lovely picture of the subspecies from Cyprus which I didn't find until today.
