Firstly I can almost guarantee that it is a Kalanchoe Bryophyllum Crenatodiagremontiana. Officially just "Kalanche Diagremontiana".And yes ~pirategirl~the diagremontiana can and does have solid green leaves. As you know, species are always somewhat different depending on where they are located geographically and manfrommars is in Malaysia. I have done extensive research on this particular plant as they became an issue in my neighborhood because someone dumped a plant on their way back home up North. (This happens here frequently with pets and plants; Snowbirds stay for the winter, get a cat or dog, a few new plants and then in March or April when it's time to go home, they realise they don't want them anymore or just don't have room, so they just leave them. I know first hand because I foster many of these animals. But that's another issue altogether...) This is an introduced invasive plant. So far only Florida, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and most recently Texas have them in the wild. I am presently in contact with the USDA and EDDMAPS to evaluate the extent of the infestation here in Venice Florida. In my photo, the plant on the left has a developed inflorescence about to bloom and the plant on the right is a very good example of why it is called "Mother of Millions".

Yep, deer poop. I got a recipe for a mix that works great at keeping deer and everything else away from my plants. Take a few crushed garlic cloves, 1/4 cup veg. oil, 3 eggs and mix them in a gallon jug of water. Let it sit in the sun for a few days to rot then strain it into a sprayer. It needs to be reapplied about every 10 days. It stinks to high heaven and you can smell it for a few hours after spraying the plants but it's the only thing that's worked for me so far. Karyn

Hi nuttshell, we also have a zoo garden! My daughter will be 6 next month and she loves it. Some of the plants we have are: toad lily, teddybear sunflowers, lion's tail, alligator shoes hosta, solomon's seal, pussytoes, pigsqueak, canarybird vine, redfox veronica speedwell, foxglove, porcupine grass, songbird series columbine, agastache honeybee blue and white,sheep's bit, firefly coralbells, elephanthead amaranthus, lambs ear, turtlehead,bunnytails grass, oyster plant, cat's whiskers, spiderflower (cleome), zinnia-polarbear, zinnia-red spider, tiger-eyes viola,yellow tiger lilies,catchfly,monkey flower,rocky mountain bee plant,cardinal flower,whirling butterflies (guara), bear's breeches, butterfly bushes,hens and chicks, hens and chicks poppies,rabbit ears(spanish lavendar) and purple horsemint. We also have edibles like canary melon, green zebra tomato, walking stick kale (like the odd bug called walking stick), baby bear pumpkin, blue-jay blueberries and tiger melon. We even put in a white flowering dogwood tree. Whew..I think that is everything. We have been very busy with this. We started it about a month ago. We connected it to our shed with one of those small white garden fences. I made a path to circle around it and then put in lots of statues and stepping stones. We also put a bench in there. Maybe this fall the two of them could exchange seeds for animal named plants from their gardens. When we have finished with ours I will have to post some pics. I know this sounds crazy.....and maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree. I have fibromyalgia. Part of my "affliction" is that I hear too much, I see too much, I feel too much, I notice too much. There are alot of theories out there as to what it really is (fibro), but for many of us, it seems to be a sensory system that's too acute. I've often wondered if it had something to do with having an ancient body in a modern world. Perhaps our bodies/brains/neuro systems have kept more of some of those senses than other people have. I know this idea is probably really too out-there, but I've just always wondered about it. What got me started thinking this way is when I went through a few years of feeling like I might fall over alot of the time. It wasn't severe dizziness.....just a sense, perhaps, that was picking up on the movement of earth through the universe. I know it sounds whacky......but I guess some of us are always searching for answers to make life make sense. When I worked in the ER, we'd have tons of crazy people come in, and also pregnant women when there was a full moon. Some people get horrible migraines when a front comes through, or their arthritis flares up. Some people get SAD (seasonal affective disorder)when fall comes. My body definitely reacts to the autumnal equinox. There are many examples of how our bodies react in an instinctual way to things, but we as humans are so disconnected from nature, that we don't even notice......or run to the doctor for a medication to get rid of certain feelings. I think we probably have lost alot of our abilities with our various senses, out of dis-use. I also think that some of our senses have been messed up by modern life......using alarm clocks, electricity, additives and preservatives in our food, medications, heating, air conditioning, etc. I wonder how long of living differently, it might take to get them back? Sorry to ramble.....
