I have my Sans in glazed ceramic pots but like Inna mentioned with watering with those, I'm really careful how I water. What works for me is sticking a toothpick in the soil. If you pull it out and you see any soil stuck to the toothpick, it's still moist. Kind of like cooking brownies! Also, at what point the soil sticks to the toothpick is an indicator as to how far down the pot moisture is still present. That works for me, I usually wait until I don't see any soil appear on the stick (or in the case of one of my Sans whose pot is too deep to go all the way to the bottom of the pot with the toothpick, I just go as far as I can if if I even see a small glimpse of soil on the tip, I wait another week... you might have to wait longer than a week, it all depends on how deep your pot is... for me it's waiting another week because my pot is only about 5 inches deep) before watering again. Others may suggest methods of watering that works for them, perhaps they will be better or easier for you to do, but this works for me. Planto

Barbara, I'll take fertile as long as it's AVs and not human babies :) LOL I already have four kids (21 - 4) and I'm in my 40's and the next babies that are mine will be my grandkids. My last child was an unplanned surprise. Donna - yes, those are plastic toothpicks that I use to anchor the mouse ears so they don't get knocked and come up/out. I usually remove them once I repot or when I'm sure there has been enough new growth to guarantee that the plant has taken root. Molly - you keep track of the list and I'll be glad to share. Yes, gardened, you should be seeing LOTS of "grand-sprouts!". Lol I do plan to mix in some grasses, peony bushes perhaps some lilacs but otherwise mostly flowers. I do have tall stuff too.. Malvas, hollyhocks, sunflowers, foxgloves, etc...... My plan..... I WISH I HAD ONE! LOL. but by the time I finish the beds and finish sowing my annuals it'll be time to plant! I know I want to plant in drifts but it will be alot of HOS- plunk & run!!! With over 800 containers and probably end up closer to 1000 I don't have time to formulate a plan or color scheme. I hope this is not my CRICTICAL MISTAKE IN ALL THIS! Seems like lots of others plunk & run so I'm hoping it turns out. :P I did lay down cardboard and newspaper under everything! Someone posted a pic of their curved beds and I just loved it so I knew that was what I wanted. Can't remember who it was though. I even have their pic as my screen saver on my computer for inspiration. Lol I PROMISE to post pics as my babies grow cause most of the seed came from ALL THE KIND AND GENEROUS PEOPLE ON GW!!!!

Marcia, Please help me find out what kind of snake I came across today. While I was at the local dog park (near Orlando) I came across a yellow with black stripes snake. It looked to be between 3.5-4 feet long and did not appear at first glance (that was all I gave it out of fear) to be shiny. I was about 3 feet from it and didn't know it until my dog almost stepped on it. She obviously didn't see it either. The snake seemed a pit peeved about the whole thing but it decided not to attack and to slowly slither towards ME to get away from my dog. Needless to say, I took off in a different direction real quick and hollered for my dog to follow. I am not like you or others on this site. I am not a fan of snakes and am extremely afraid of them. Although, I don't mind the black racers that seem to have taken up permanent residence in MY back yard and they love to procreate often (or so it seems). I have seen a lot less field rats since the racers moved in and that makes me very happy. Anyway, can you help me figure out what this snake was? I have spent hours and hours online tonight trying to find it and just can't seem to find anything that looks like it. I am guessing that it is not dangerous to me or my dogs??? I am scared to take my dogs back through those woods that they so dearly love. As soon as I told them, "No more woods until the snakes are gone again," they "told" me to find it if it was dangerous or not and if it isn't that they want to go back again. So that is mostly why I am asking you for your help. We all love the walks but I am afraid of the snakes. Please help me feel safer about going back. Thanks in advance for your help.
