Can anyone tell if it's a Golden-winged or Needham's Skimmer?

I don't know, but it sure is pretty.

My vote is for Needham's but after doing some research on the two, there is little to distinguish them. Even their distribution is almost identical.

OK so u are blessed but this year I have2 huge heavenly blue and NO flowers even though they have lots of leaves.. I put blood meal in the fertilizer mix. could that have messed them up as annuals bloom best under stress? I was blaming the deer and other critters but now even the tallest vines have nothing.. not even bud de3velopment so far as I can see. wonder if there is any chance of a sterile seed lot.. Only year this has happened!! HELP!!

Hi, do you still have any lambs ear or the jacobs ladder? I would love to make a trade for them. I have live 4 evers, tiger lilies, blue and purple morning glories, and Giant head grows up to 17 ft. tall sunflower seeds and multi medium head sunflowers that grow to 5 ft. tall as of now. Do Mosquito dunks kill Dragonfly nymphs?

We have a lot of dead Dragonfly nymphs, but there are 3 distinct species in the bog and they may be preying on each other? The way the bacillus works is by destroying thr gut lining of many nymph species of insects (not just mosquitos and black flies), and the study linked mentions smaller Dragonfly nymph size. I wish they did a much larger study because just one genus/species test leaves me a bit nervous still. lsst - what kind (or colored) Dragonflies do you have?

HAHA Thank you Violet and I completely agree, the process of cleaning and potting is a huge part of the fun! I do love looking at them and studying their growth and if I see pups or flowers then OMG!! Great thread on freeing your beautiful string of pearls also, I have to see what new addition you have added since the magnificent pink and yellow dragonfly, I have never seen one that color before!

Thanks, y'all. I wish I'd been able to get a nice profile shot. Just as I think it looks like one, I read something else to make me think it's the other. I got some shots of the males, as well, which look to me more like Golden-Winged. What I can see of the female's thorax markings make me think Needham's. I am, of course, assuming the males and females hanging out in that spot were 'couples'.

no... I went back and looked at the pic again and now I'm leaning more toward G-W. Reckon I'm just gonna have to label this one a pretty yellow libellula (gotta love that word *g*). I'm just glad Purple Skimmers PROB'LY aren't found here. 8-]
