Our 2 Khaki Campbells need their daily bath and the water needs to be changed at least once a week. You may want to rethink the work that will be involved when you go with the kiddie pool. We bought a black cement mixing plastic bin from Home Depot. It's a little smaller than a kiddie pool but just right for two ducks. They need a little stool to get in and a big rock inside to help them jump out. If they can't get in and out of the water easily they can get injured rather quickly. The pool is heavy to dump but I put it under a fruit tree and it's free fertilizer. Grows great cherries. The work is a small price to pay for how happy the ducks are. They are in there winter and summer, rain, snow, sleet, hail. They love it.

shawnamaverick You should probably get some duck feed as ducks require different nutrition than other birds. Provide some small gravel for digestion. With our farmed ducks we have the heat lamp at about 90 degrees F the first week and decrease it by 5 degrees per week. It may be illegal where you are to keep a wild duck so you should check into that. Duck will need fresh water every and food that meets it's nutritional need. Depends on the type of duck, but if it's a water fowl it will likely roost on the ground so just a safe place for night. You may find that the duck will not accept the chukar. Ducks imprint very strong on what they see when they hatch. In this case it believes it is a duck. If it was hatched out by humans it would believe it was a human. Ducks can be very aggressive so be prepared for that. You may find you have a loudly quacking baby on your hands for a while, they are flock animals.

I can't see the photos. Fuzz means it's still young, just a few weeks if even that. I would NOT put that duckling back in the pond by itself. It will likely last only an hour or so, certainly not overnight. Fish, birds, and who knows what else is there that just love ducklings for dinner. Find a farm or someone familiar with ducks to raise it until it can fly. It has a better chance there than in open water unprotected by mama. Brendasue

Oh boy, those are some big fine ducks. I do not know the difference in ducks and wild geese, but think like you that these are ducks, maybe crosses with a wild species. If they scoped your garden out thoroughly, they might be back, and include you on their dinner and a date night plans. One thing to note, most ducks enjoy a water supply, like maybe a garbage can lid turned upside down. I have one now that I plan to use with a suspended 5 gal bucket to drip water into it. We might not hear the small splash, but it is irresistable to birds of many kinds. Just a small hole drilled a couple inches off the bottom (to keep debris from plugging it up) and it should do. A really tiny hole. When I get mine finished, I'll show how it fits into the garden.
