Oh boy, those are some big fine ducks. I do not know the difference in ducks and wild geese, but think like you that these are ducks, maybe crosses with a wild species. If they scoped your garden out thoroughly, they might be back, and include you on their dinner and a date night plans.

One thing to note, most ducks enjoy a water supply, like maybe a garbage can lid turned upside down. I have one now that I plan to use with a suspended 5 gal bucket to drip water into it. We might not hear the small splash, but it is irresistable to birds of many kinds. Just a small hole drilled a couple inches off the bottom (to keep debris from plugging it up) and it should do. A really tiny hole.

When I get mine finished, I'll show how it fits into the garden.

I found out they were Khaki Campbell domestic ducks that were bred for egg laying and meat. I thought the markings on their backs were very nice. I don't know where they came from but I hope they come back. Marg

I think they are gorgeous! Every hosta garden should have a pair to take care of the slugs. I couldn't though, I have a hound who is very sweet, I don't think she would hurt them. But I am sure she would terrorize them just by chasing them.
