Did anyone find out what insect could have laid these eggs by any chance? I just discovered this on the top of a hosta leaf. Not sure whether a beneficial bug/insect or not. Would anyone know please? I googled but could not find identical eggs except for this thread. Thank you. Jo.

Several katydids on one plant constitutes pest status. If you begin seeing lots of holes in the plant, then I'd spray the nymphs off with a stream of water. The birds will love that little guy and all of its friends. It's fun to watch a robin or cardinal chasing after something that hops.

Yes the insect is Cicada. It is called with different names. Cicadas are sometimes colloquially called "locusts", although they are unrelated to true locusts, which are a kind of grasshopper. They are also known as "jar flies". Cicadas are related to leafhoppers and spittlebugs. In parts of the southern Appalachian Mountains in the United States they are known as "dry flies" because of the dry shell they leave behind.
