Can anyone tell me what type of Bee this is. I have searched the net but still don't know.

I found him crawling across my living room floor earlier this afternoon all dazed.

looking at the bee it had a long spike coming out of its mouth, looking on the internet i found out it was a ' tongue sheaf'

Do all Bee's have these?

All nectar-eating bees do. From the pollen baskets on the rear legs you seem to have a honey bee or a wild nectar and pollen collecting bee,

What does the rear end look like?

I would say a bumble bee, it's not a honey bee.

There is no such thing as a bee that is less than useful. Your bee is some sort of native bumble bee. They are actually more efficient pollinators than honey bees, so even more useful. Also, they are often solitary bees which means they don't have a hive to protect, so are very unlikely to sting. Much less so than even honey bees. Hopefully that is reassuring to you and your friend. Bee sting allergy is something I do not envy. Martha

It's hard without a picture and I'm no expert on bee identification. There's a sight called "what's buzzing in my garden" that may help. I've also listed a sight below of bee photos. Hope this helps, Tony Here is a link that might be useful: http://www.pollinatorparadise.com/Solitary_Bees/PhotoGallery.htm

I have a Kodak Easyshare CX6230 which can get as close as 5 inches from a subject, but no closer. It also has optical zoom which gets you a little closer, but as with any zoom used without a tripod, any shaking, breathing, even your pulse, can make the image blurry. Cost was about $140 in 2004.

Not a bumble bee. Bumble bees are yellow with black sripes. Your bee appears to be a secies of a honey bee.

Nope, it is not a hornet. It is a wood borer bee. They do like flowers too, and will get globs of pollen on their legs. :)
