Bird ID, please

Hopefully this link to the pics I took will work. There was a flock of these and I'd like to know what they are if anyone recognizes them.

Hi! Looks like you have a flock of American Goldfinches; if you even put up a cheap WalMart black oil sunflower feeder they'll hang around!

Thanks so much! I've got 2 feeders up with birdseed and extra black sunflower seeds added. But haven't noticed them using the feeders yet. It could be my regulars intimidated them. Sometimes I think our local birds think the feeders belong to them and only them!

Really,... I was a member of the model air plane club in Lethbridge, we had a field to fly on the west side, [University] that wind surely made it difficult at times. Going skying to Fernie or Kimberly on the Crowsnest Highway I have fond memories seeing the HUGE nest in town, not sure anymore which town. At times it was above 0 degree in the hills, going back to Lethbridge it would still be in the deep freeze!

My niece said that last evening he flew away. We don't know if he hit something and was stunned or what. But he is apparently OK and we are happy about that! Thanks for the ID!!

I agree. with Claire They always show up here all at once, usually in November. You can tell them for sure by their couple of white tail feathers when they fly. The females are brownish.

Your regular birds can bully smaller birds like Goldfinches.

You need to consider a thistle sock or feeder designed for Nyjer (often called thistle). These feeders are designed for finches and very few other birds can feed from them.

Besides, Goldies love Nyjer seed.
