My tomatoes had early blight, among other things, and the fruits' lesions looked your first two fruit pics. I'm wondering what I will do next year. My garden isn't big enough to move them more than 4' or so.

I just picked all the ones with small lesions and I'm going to cut them out and roast & freeze the good portions. Trying to salvage SOMETHING. I hope that's OK to do!

The second and fourth photos look like late blight to me.

I'd like to know what the first one is. My dad has that on some of his tomatoes and I couldn't determine if it was septoria or one of the bacterial diseases. The others do look like late blight as Cindy said.

2 is definitely Late Blight.

3 might have been chewed by a hornworm -- they sometimes eat a slice or a chunk out of a fruit and leave the rest. When a fruit has been damaged, it will begin to ripen early. Compare these photos:

5 is probably a tomato fruitworm or an armyworm. The armyworms like leaves as well as fruit. Definitely not a hornworm -- they don't excavate holes in the fruit, just eat the whole thing bite by bite, from one side to the other.

I can't identify 1 at all. 4 could be LB, but might be something else for all I know.

We've had a rainy spring here in TN and the first to hit the Roma's was early blight. Then late blight hit all varieties and finished them off. Fortunately we had so many plants this summer we canned enough for at least 2 years. The vines that should be producing until frost in mid October, are all already dead. They'll be pulled up and burned this coming week.

No doubt your tomatoes are being attacked by the uglies. The one with the hole in it is from a tomato fruit worm. Hard to find and quick to damage. Early blight won't damage the fruit that fast and I'd suspect late blight that could be so invasive and destructive. Not alot can be done here. There are more problems with tomatoes than one cares to encounter and we just have to go with the flow. After all they're actually a weed, poisonous too, that submit to all kinds of attacks from local predetors. We grow them with hope in our hearts and must bear the obvious problems that will constantly arise. Here Septoria Leaf Spot has done it's job along with Early Blight. Disapointing? You bet. Hang in there and keep growing, you'll get a good crop, and you'll expect the same next year and.... Well, maybe.

Thanks for the responses, guys. OK, next question: what should I do? Should I destroy all the plants where there is evidence of blight?

Everything I've read says to rip out every plant that shows even the slightest form of blight then burn them (if possible). This would be your only hope of getting even a few tomatoes. I have read that by the time you see the blight on one plant the disease has already had the opportunity to spread to all the rest of your plants.

So, yes I think you should pull up the ones that show any sign of blight and hope you get a few ripe 'maters before they all succumb....
