Unknown black bird- what is it?

First, my apologies if it offends anyone that the photo is of a dead bird -- I found it in my garden yesterday, fallen between two flower pots. It was small to medium sized, with black/green iridescent feathers tipped in white, and outlined in white on the wings, which were medium gray on the underside. Have never noticed one like this before in my yard (coastal Southern California).

Does anyone know what it is? Thanks.
