Most likely culprit are slugs/snails. I'd go out at night as others have mentioned and pull them off your plants and anywhere around the garden where you see them. Drop 'em in a bowl of soapy water. If you have boards or rocks as edging, they like to hide under those as well. Look under them and pick the slugs off and throw them in soapy water as well. Water only in the morning to allow the soil to dry out a bit before night. Slugs thrive in cool, high moisture conditions. I would also make use of beer traps as well. They aren't quite as effective as just physically killing them, but they still work, which is great since you can't be guarding your garden from slugs all the time. I'm dealing with a similar problem in my own garden. I expect to dramatically reduce the slug population by following these three practices as much as possible. Hi Gary and perennall, thanks a lot. I looked up Morgensonne, but that one is double (or semi-) and the NOID has single flowers. But interestingly enough Morgensonne is described to be a cultivar of H decapetalus, so they would be of the same species. I couldn`t get any more information from the garden lady, but the way she works it is most likely an old variety, handed down/ around in the neighbourhood, and not bought at a nursery (that would be waste of money...) here another detail of the flowers, single and bright yellow, so looking forward to them next summer. thanks, bye, Lin

Seems decent and very workable to me, as well as attractive. I think it does a good job of giving you your partially open kitchen. Are you going to be able to leave the peninsula open, with no post? I really prefer this cleaner look. You didn't replace the fridge in the floorplan with more cabinets for dish storage, but they seem to be there in the 3D rendering, so that's good. If it were mine, I might want to wait to finish the perimeter of the kitchen, then mock up an island, trying it in different lengths and in different positions to make sure and have it the best it could be. If it suits your style sensibilities, you could even get something that had a bit of character to it...Something different than matching your cabinets. This is a minor detail and maybe just personal opinion, but I'm not a fan of diagonal corner cabinets and think a 90-degree door in the upper corner would better fit the style of kitchen you're designing. Better access, plus more classic/timeless, especially since you have no other angles. The only way it'd be better is to widen the kitchen to be able place a wider island with prep sink in better proximity to be a prep area near the stove. Overall, I give this plan a thumbs up. I wouldn't be at all disappointed to see this kitchen in a house I was considering buying. It would be a big plus.

Hi Rhome... all that food sounds yummy- it's people like you that inspire me to want to try to cook and more importantly, to teach our children to want to learn too. My mom always let us help when we were kids. Unfortunately, she passed away when I was way too young (13 years ago). I sure wish I would have paid more attention. No recipes- just a little of this and some of that and lots of great memories too! I really am going to enjoy experimenting in my new kitchen. I have been putting lots of thought into storage for the new kitchen. I'm thinking that the shelves above the microwave can be used for storing bowls and I will also have 1 drawer below the warming drawer. Pots and pans will go under the range and spices in the pull outs on either side of the cooktop. That leaves me with 2 additional upper cabinets for food prep supplies (oils/sauces) and additional bowls/small appliances (hand mixer, chopper) and measuring devices. Even if I lose the base cabinet space below the microwave for a 2nd trash, I think this should be enough storage. Also, with the microwave out of the island, I think that space at the cook top end will be perfect for additional items (large mixer, baking stuff). What do you think? I really need to try to find pictures or more info on the standing desk. It sounds like it would be great. If I move the 1st trash to the sink side (in place of stack of drawers) would you recommend putting that stack where the trash was originally at the end of the island? I had planned that for dish towels, wraps, ziplocks, etc. One other thing- a few months back you helped me with some elevations and sent me some photos from your kitchen. I liked the way you used different finishes in your space. I want to do something similar and plan for the island, the area above the cook top and the hutch to be different than the perimeter cabinets. I am looking at distressed creams, blacks and sage green or distressed red. Would you mind sending them again? Thanks so much.
