Hmmmmm, so far I've had more luck with the Pearly Everlastings than the Pussytoes. However, I'm not sure I'd give up either one. Little Bluestem grows without any special treatment here. Mine made it through our severe winter in a pot. HTH, sandy

If we get to make our own, I'm thinking the leaf shape of 'Xanadu Passion's Fruit' with an extremely thick substance, red margins and bright gold/yellow centers. It would have maroon petioles, blood red scapes and deep yellow, very fragrant flowers. Don Rawson, could you whip one up for me, please? Bouldergrower - Thanks for the additional photo. Just curious, do the leaves shrivel/shrink much when it needs water? Or do they look relatively the same as with nelii? To me, this was a bit of a drawback (and why I didn't end up trying to get one) because it would be harder to tell when it needs watering. For sure I'm on board with it being Pleiospilos simulans. Mesa Gardens has a couple described on their seedlist as follows: 1835-simulans wide flat gaping leaf pair 1835.06-simulans Kendrew, thick broad gaping leaves 1835.08-simulans Klipplaat, best form we have 1835.09-simulans near Miller, not very flat 1835.1-simulans Teasdale, gaping leaves flatten with age 1836-simulans Pearston, fat open mouthed clams So definitely there are some regional variations within the simulans species. For sure yours is not 1835.06 or 1835.08. I have a similar one. Titanopsis is probably calcarea. Titanopsis is another group of Mesembs that is a bit of a mess... so I'm never 100% sure about the official names of those. Faucaria is candida (white flowers) or felina (yellow flowers)?

Thank you Christopher for your answer. So yours is in the same family as the Old Man's Beard (C. Senilis)? I think they are so neat looking. If only the fluffy/fuzzy outer layer didn't hide hurtful spines underneath. Amazing where we find some plants isn't it. I always check Walmart just on the off chance they may have something.
