"Sweet Hibiscus", abelmoschus manihot, is in the okra family. The photos in the link below don't do the flower justice, but it does contain some interesting information - I never knew the leaves were edible, and don't think the pods are. I've been overwintering my in my little greenhouse, but may have lost it to the frost this year. Plenty of seeds to replant, and it's a fast grower. The light yellow blooms appear in mid-summer, early in the day, so a delightful greeting in the morning ... especially when they're eye-level! Why not just put the manure on top if it's too cold to work it in; the earthworms and weather should work it in for you. Winter-sowing is a winter sanity-saver! I usually have lettuce seedlings up by first weekend in March, even when there's snow on the ground. This morning I pulled out the tomato plants, basil, peppers, zucchini, pole beans and what's left of the lettuces. Even the "Cold? Psshh ... bring it on!" chard isn't looking so bold today. That is a metal head of a season lady. I forget what you call them. I had a book as a child that had pictures for woman representing Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. She has grapes for hair. I wired her on a Linden tree that was dying. For a while I thought of carving the tree but it was too hard and required skill. You have a good camera like Glenda; I can't get that close to birds. You got the texture of the snow. The area around my bird feeder is nasty and would not look good if I could get a picture. I am on my last bag of sunflowers seeds. They have gone through lots of seed and suet.

peren.all - Our Cole is not fond of cold (or wet!) The two other dogs in the picture of three of them in the snow belong to friends who are vacationing somewhere warm :-) Their Boston Terrier definitely doesn't like cold - the breed has no undercoat so easily get cold. The big collie-mix doesn't mind the cold but likes another dog to play with - and neither Cole nor the Boston terrier are particularly interested in playing in the snow! Our previous dog was a Lhasa Apso and she LOVED the snow! We nicknamed her Little Miss Himalaya :-) This is a picture of her playing in the snow with her Briard buddy - both, sadly, are dead now. No snow here now - very sunny out there at the moment. Most of the snow was gone by Saturday afternoon and everybody was out raking leaves.....

"gardengal, are you concerned about damage to some of your plants?" Yeah......the houseplants that are still hanging around outside my front door!! To be honest, it was 60F a couple of days ago and hasn't dropped below 40F at night. It's just been too wet and yucky recently to spend much time outdoors so I put it off. But that's all changing!! All the houseplants are now safe and warm indoors. Everything else will just have to fend for itself. Most have already wintered an Arctic blast in the high teens in a previous garden and my current location has an even milder microclimate. I'm not too worried. But I guess my nasturtiums will finally stop blooming 🤔
