Where are all the birds in Florida?

I am visiting Panama City Beach in Florida (northwest) from Saskatchewan for the month of November and I was hoping to see some of the birds that have left my home for warmer climates. All I have seen here is black and white warblers (palm perhaps), mockingbirds, house sparrows (I think they followed me here lol), one woodpecker yesterday, pigeons, sea gulls, a blue heron and egret in my backyard because there is a pond in the back. Where are the goldfinches, robins, house and purple finches, cardinals, hummingbirds (which I really wanted to see) and some other birds that we don't normally get in Sask. Haven't even seen a chickadee. Where is everybody?

Florida is just like any other place. Not every place holds birds. Your back yard will have what it has and rarely you get to see something new. The key is habitat and if you go to where its good for a particular species you are most likely to see it. I birded in Florida many times and I was never disappointed.

I definitely haven't noticed either. My little garden here in N Scottsdale is always teaming with them, and has for quite a few years. I hope there's not a general decline going on. One thing I HAVE noticed in the last 10 years or so is how many more adorable, loud, fun African lovebirds are all over the area--a fun development if you ask me. When I first moved here in 2000 it was pretty rare to see/hear them, and mostly in central Phoenix, now I see them most days, in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe, and so on, even in the outer areas. I'd find their "song", hah, annoying as a caged bird, but when they're flying around making it, I sort of like it. Happy gardening all! Grant

Our bird population does not seem to have changed much, except that a great horned owl has moved into the woods behind the house. There seem to be a few more hummingbirds than usual. Perhaps because the jewel weed is blooming so profusely along the creek. Becky
