Buying seeds for Sungold
Comments (15)ThatÂs interesting about Sungold sometimes turning out red, Jay! I never heard that before, and the year before last one of my "Sungold" WAS red! This was some of the old T & M seed I was still using, and I figured a couple of the wrong seeds had gotten mixed in when it was packaged, so last year I ordered a new pack from PinetreeÂbut never got around to planting any! I wonder if the same thing might happen, then, with the new Pinetree seed! ItÂll be interesting! But if thatÂs the case, Connie, I still have plenty of the old T & M seed, which I didnÂt offer to you earlier because I thought they were mixed up with a red variety! So if you donÂt find them, or havenÂt found them yet, and would like some of the olde (1996!) seed, IÂd be glad to stick some in an envelope and send them to you. Just no promises if theyÂll be yellowÂor red! IÂve never tried SunSugar! How is it when it comes to cracking? ThatÂs the only thing I donÂt like about Sungold! It just cracks too easily, especially right when you pick them. If theyÂre less inclined to crack, I MIGHT be tempted to try SunSugar, but I think itÂll be hard to beat SungoldÂs flavor. For a cherry that doesnÂt crack, you canÂt beat Sweet Baby Girl as far as IÂm concerned. ItÂs a red, but the flavorÂs great and it doesnÂt crack even when you pick them. That oneÂalong with SungoldÂis permanent on my list now! Skybird...See More"Stunted" Sunsugar
Comments (11)Tottally not normal; the SunSugar plants should be twice the height of the other varieties from the getgo. I picked about 10 Qt. from mine tonight and yesterday I needed a ladder to clip the upper branches to stringline. Like mane cherry/grape varieties these are very tall growing plants. As for your problem and that of others I really can't tell anything wrong except the comparative ht. you mention. Are you confident that you have SS and not a seed mixup?...See MoreSungold/sunugar tomato seeds
Comments (2)Hi dennismic, I have both varieties, the sunsugar is a hybrid, however in the sungold I have a hybrid, and a stabilised hybrid stabilised by some German guy to become open pollinated, which is pretty darn close to the original hybrid sungold. I also have sungella which you may be interestd in, it is a cross of sungold and tigerella from Thomson and Morgan. I live on the mid north coast of NSW. Kind regards, Danny...See MoreNapa Grape, Black Cherry, Chocolate Cherry or SunGold Cherry Tomatoes?
Comments (15)We grew (6) Galina's plants last year along with multiples of Sunchoccola, Husky Cherry Red, Riesentraube, Sunrise Bumblebee, Lucky Tiger, Sungold and Nefertiti. The Galina's were the yellow variety in our mixed cherry baskets. IMO it's a great cherry and very prolific as well but it does not have that "pop" of a Sungold or a Sunsugar. We have customers that demand Sungolds but the splitting is problematic where we're located. I am hesitant to grow it anymore other than for personal consumption because of that.
