Lots of Robins!

Today as I was sitting in view of our backyard I saw a flock of robins suddenly descend on our crabapple tree.

Many of them were huge (even for robins) and they all started just chomping on the crabapples. I guess they had just gotten ripe enough for them to eat. What I couldn't get over is how they swooped in as a flock and took over the tree. And in addition, others took over a berry shrub in the neighbor's yard. I have never seen so many robins in one place, ever. And a yellow-bellied sapsucker arrived with the robins on the tree (and I've never seen one around here before).

My husband got home from work just as this all was unfolding, and he said the noise was unbelievable, even from the front yard.

I have to say, although this was fascinating, it was also a little creepy!

Robins don't migrate from New England, right? Or am I mistaken? And has anyone ever had this happen in their yard before?
