I looked into this a few years ago. I was told that "Guardian" is a seedling rootstock and was available only to certain licensed growers. I bought a few peach selections from such a nursery with the intention of growing the peaches but also trying to propagate rootstock from root cuttings if possible. I still haven't gotten around to trying, though now is the right season.

A reminder that you don't need Jo, but maybe helpful to others. Too much green is due to added chlorophyll the leaves produce to better photosynthesize carbon dioxide into plant matter and oxygen. If exposed to more sun the need for chlorophyll is reduced and ergo the green recedes. More sun, the lighter the coloration of the leaves; larger margins. Less sun, more green. This is why hosta turn green in the Fall as daylight decreases. I'm sure you will try to get back to the sunlight you had success with last year during next season. Use a screen, more green. Add some light, nice and bright. I apologize, it was the best I could come up with. Jon

yikes.. i ddint even notice the leek like depth .. and that again.. can be a media failure .. or your fault.. in the sense of potting it too fluffy.. and it sinking in the pot ... when you use the right media.. you can pack the plant in there... so it wont sink ... yet the good media.. still allows water flow .... i hope babka sees this.. and maybe gives us a pic of an unpotted hosta of hers.. in her supreme media mix ... to my eye.. your plant.. looks like it was struggling to put roots down the center.. with a few longer roots that went to the side of the pot that reads media failure .. in the sense that when you watered.. the water did not flow thru the media as a whole .. but tended to puddle and run down the sides of the pot.;. so thats where the hosta put the roots ... but that leaves most of your root mass .. not performing to perfection ... most of us.. deal with annuals in pots.. and since they die or are replaced every season.. you never really experience this ... but we are .. quite out of the ordinary ... growing perennials in pots.. and that add another level of problems ... and requires more frequent replacement of media ... and.. i am discussing this so you can learn .. and trust me on life getting in the way.. i have many more pots than you, that needed to be repotted 2 years ago ... lol ... so dont go all touchy feely on me .... unfortunately for me.. its more of a .... i dont care anymore thing ... ken

I have one on my fence that is 8/9 years old. The thorns are huge and painful...Mine MGA stretches 20 feet in each directions, it's very healthy and the flowers are lovely. Huge flush in the spring and scattered blooms thereafter. It took a good 3 years to get going, mine survive with occasional summer water and no fertilizer. It gets sun mostly of the day. I am in costal SoCal, hope this help, good luck!
