Comments (4)I'm probably a Zone warmer(NCentral GA) than middle Tenn and GA is pretty much a dud here. I had 6 of them, all, but one, have reverted to all blue and some died. Only one grew well and increased in size for 2-3 years, then began a slow decline in size, until it's barely a foot in diameter, but still exhibits the true coloration. The parent, BA is a very robust plant for me, forming clumps 5+ft. wide. They are both in similar soil, location and receive same amount of moisture. I suppose GA could benefit from a longer dormancy and colder temperatures....See MoreGuardian Angel
Comments (12)How cool that you have a neighbor to trade for something great like that. Kate, I agree, you need to get this hosta! I got this hosta in 2010. I stopped at a place that used to be my favorite nursery - very different stuff at this place with a lovely wooded path section with many shade plantings and sculptures. The owner had recently closed the retail aspect to focus on his landscaping business, but was still selling a few things one day a month. So he and I were chatting and I had picked out a couple of hostas to buy. He wanted to show me something up in the wooded section. So we were walking up the path and we passed a hosta planted on the left. I said, " oh that's a really nice Guardian Angel". He was so impressed that I knew the name of it so he grabbed a shovel and cut me out a fat division right on the spot. GAve it to me free!...See MoreCan't Decide: Guardian Angel or Golden Meadows?
Comments (14)Those two plants are sooooo different! Here, both are planted in heavy shade. Golden Meadows wops the daylights out of guardian angel for growth. this makes sense since golden Meadows is far greener later in the season and therefore more chlorophyll. what a difference the age of the plant and the growing zone makes in terms of variagation lost through the season. here the guardian angel loses none and the golden Meadows remains with some, albeit subtle but certainly not entirely green. the golden Meadows becomes a much fuller plant than the Guardian Angels airiness. it's a really tough choice but if I had to make it golden Meadows wins. then again we have beauty queen to make up for it. fwiw, hh...See MoreGuardian Angel a bit shy of colour
Comments (21)Barb, congratulations on your new GA! Nice size too! - it is an eye catcher, who could resist? Love that streaky leaf shape between 5-6 o'clock and the way the leaf curves at the tip. Jennifer, thanks for going to the trouble and taking those pics! I admit that from all my GA pics, that very blue one is a favourite. I had no idea it went through such a transition. Speaking of transition....Your GA, with the green-blue in those shots, combined with water drops, is beautiful! I love the mystery of this hosta ... every leaf is different, every plant is different. The common factor is "gorgeous"!...See Moresteve duggins(Z6a) - Central Ohio
