Costa Rican wildlife - ID please

Hi
I was in CR at the end of May this year and took pictures of the birds in this link. I tentatively id'd some - if you click on the picture, my id appears on the right top corner. For those that I have tried to ID, I would appreciate confirmation (or not) and also would like specifics on them. As an example, I id'd a bird as a woodpecker, but would like to know what specific kind it is. For the rest, any ids you could provide would be wonderful.

Maybe if they jazzed up the couch with matching Caryopteris incana 'Jason' on either side it might pass the muster. But if 'Jason' is not hardy in zone 5 - 8 as Eric questions the Editors of Fine Gardening magazine in this months issue August 2005 ( Page 10 Over the Gaden Fence section ) then it is a mute point. ( that lovely shade of chartreuse foliage next a 1950 era orange couch could be smashing ! ) what next, no appliances on the front lawn ? .. where to put those toilet bowl planters ?

Superautomatic espresso advice please

I have been through two of the saeco and gaggia models, both lasted around 2-3 years making 10-20 cups per day on average. Main issue with the under $500 units is that no one will work on them, or the repairs exceed the cost of replacement( I've had both happen). Most of that class have the removable brew group for cleaning. On the last go around I got a Jura j5, picked up a refurb model for $900. It has about two years on it and still works great. Additionally it can be readily sent off for service. Basically $150 will fix anything on it. The j5 is all enclosed, it runs a rinse on start up and shut down, and a clean every few hundred cups that takes about twenty minutes. I am sure there are baristas who can make a better espresso out there, but for something that heats in 30 seconds in the morning with no mess I'll take it. I also don't claim to have a good enough palate that I could readily identify the better espresso. This puts a nice crema on the espressos, and the flavor is just right, not too bitter. I use home roasted coffee, normally Costa Rican. Just about everything on it is adjustable: water temp, coffee strength and grind, volume of water for each programmed drink, etc. You can't fit a travel mug under it, or at least none of the 16-20 oz ones that I have. I brew into a mug and dump it in if I'm travelling, or tilt it under the spouts.

I used to get a Sumatran coffee that I loved..switched roasters and didn't like theirs as much as I love their Brazil Dark Roast..so it's my "standard"... Here's the link to where I get mine..And I must say I love the coffee club of the month..You can switch it up, delay shipments, move them up..whatever..Everything I've tried I love...The Sumatran is not as good in dark as it is in medium roast. Some of my favorites from them are the Coffee of the Month when they blend roasts or beans. It's roasted the morning it's shipped out via Priority. Thank you very much! I knew I would get answers here. Members like you are such great resources!

I visited CR during their rainy season which wasn't conducive to getting a lot of good shots. I do wish I had better pictures of the thrush. The Ctenosaur on the road side was pretty cool. Thanks for that ID as well.

Here is one I did identify without any trouble - the Resplendent Quetzal

I'll try to ID some of the others tomorrow...where did you see the Quetzal? I saw several in the Monteverde Cloud Forest about 30 years ago.

That's exactly where I saw it too! The private company that runs the place did a smart thing. They knew of the nesting habits of this bright colorful bird (apparently the main draw for most visitors) and installed a nest box on a tree a few hundred feet from the trail. So we were guaranteed a sighting of the bird especially when we took a guided tour where the tour guide had a telescopic binoculars! Sure enough there was a pair hanging about the box and the male was going in and out bringing in new nesting materials.

We saw spider monkeys in Monteverde which was very nice. We also saw this collared redstart.
