I think these will probably be sciarid flies - commonly fruit flies. Cover your compost with a dry material such as leaves, straw or bracken and see it that reduces there activities. Yes. Your right. It’s mold related. But. Unfortually for many people it doesn’t go away that fast. It’s often mold and fungus that is growing through out the house. A good soother for insect bites is lavender oil (English not spike) and it can also be used as a repellent. Another soother is aloe vera gel - but be sure to check that you're not allergic to it by trying it on a small patch first. Melaleuca tea-tree oil can also be used. DO NOT, never, no, use rue leaves as a repellent. On some people it combines with sunshine to provide long term misery. It's not worth finding out if you're one of them. Look for a sunblocker with insect repellent. Something to keep the sandflies and mozzies at bay. It doesn't take a bottleful to give relief, either. Ask at the chemist's - particularly if you have allergies or sensitive skin.

Well, my doctor about had a fit when she first saw this mess but once I explained about the mosquito bites, she calmed down. I am being treated with a round of antibiotics because one area of the arm is presenting exactly like cellulitis.....swollen, red, hot, and painful. I have also been carrying around a lowgrade fever for two days. I am to continue with icing (helps a lot), benadryl cream, and antibiotic ointment. I've brought home a can of DEET, which I can spray on my clothes, though I cannot use it on my skin. My herbal repellent has been very effective, I just need to remember to use it. So....an allergic reaction to a large number of mosquito bites in one small area which may have precipitated an incident of cellulitis.
