American Redstart

We have a yard full of American Redstarts this afternoon. I know they migrate, but isn't it a little early? We usually see the spring migration first ones passing through beginning of March and the first ones we saw for the fall migration last year was end of October.

Anyone know when they usually pass through NE Florida? (Gainesville area)

Leaves changed here in Northern Illinois a month early, I think fall and winter are starting a little early this year. All of the plants in the area just kind of gave up in September and went dormant lol. This year was too much for them.

I have been absolutely inundated with Pine Siskins. There had to have been forty or fifty of them out there today. I normally don't see them until the middle of winter. So I'm also seeing an early trend, just further north.

Wow!! I sure hope so! Thanks for the heads up, Ladywinger! Any sightings of our humming bird? It seems my hawk has finally moved on to somewhere else. My jays, house finches and cardinals came back. I even saw a few monk parrots at the feeder. It's nice that the birds have come back.

Totally awesome photos, Mark-I'll go prepare to roll out the red carpet! I know it's started; I was sitting in the woods this morning trying to get a clear shot of an Eastern Towhee male, when a first year female Blackpoll Warbler came by to see what I was From April 2009

Wow, I could have sworn I answered this a little while ago but it isn't showing up. Anyway, sorry for the delay, I've been out of town and just saw the requests for info. I will update MyPage but it is a Canon Rebel XT1i. The standard lens is an 18-55 mm, and we added a 55-250 zoom. Both lenses are image stabilized. All of the shots here were with the zoom. Thanks for the compliments!

It could be but I'm not positive. I'll have to show this to my Mom. I kept describing him as having "orange armpits", so this pic would match in that respect. But the bird in your pic looks more sleek and less chubby than the bird in my yard. He had that well-rounded chickadee belly. Do you know of any other small black, orange and white birds that might be in my area? I see that you're in KY!
