That looks like 3 tomatoes fused into 1 to me.

Thats awesome. I have a black Krim that was just under 2 pounds (ugly as can be though) which I thought was amazing, but good god that thing is massive!

Do you do anything purposely to these plants(Miracle grow daily?) to grow such massive tomatoes or is it just nature as it was with my 2 pounder?

I actually cut all the catface out of it tonight and ate it. It was soooooooooooooooooo juicy and good. Even the huge ugly tomatoes are delicious. I was suprised it was tasty. I expected the worst.

I harvested my biggest tomato ever this year -- "only" 2.2 pounds. It also tasted simply delicious.

some gardeners like to create (or perhaps stimulate is a better word) fused blossoms which generates these monsters. of course its no accident that the camera angle on these monsters never shows a top angle.

What are you thinking a top angle would show? These are tomatoes from fused blossoms. This tomato was probably three or four blossoms fused together. This type of tomato requires special attention such as extra pollen. Marv

How do you fuse a blossom?

They grow that way naturally. I've always assumed some are due to fasciation, but I don't know if that's true, or why it would affect tomato blossoms so much more often than other parts of the vine.

As far as I have ever been able to find, there is no definitive reason for a tomato plant to form a magabloom or fused blossom. But since it primarily occurs on early blooms, there is a tendency to attribute the formation to cool temperatures during the time that blossoms are developing.

Persons interested in growing one of these big tomatoes look for varieties of tomato that grow big and have a tendancy to form fused blossoms. Most of the large blossoms are among the first blossoms on a plant though a few appear later. I have no idea why but I think it does have something at least to do with the variety of tomato.
