swifts/swallows

Hi folks from the S of F again. Every spring we get lots of migrating swifts, who often nest here and produce young, who fall down the chimney and into the pool and have to be rescued. Today, for the first time, clear blue sky, no low cloud base, we have had a flyover of swallows, literally a couple of metres over our hedges, very low, at lunchtime. What is happening? Have they changed their migrating route? I believe I have an old swallows nest over my front door, but have never seen them here. Definitely swallows and not martins. Any ideas? Jacqui.
