Kioni, I would think that the cornmeal would have to start decomposing before the worms will find it attractive and start moving towards it. Therefore I think you would have to wet it and wait for it to decompose before you have any hope of catching worms. What you really need is a one way worm filter/valve. That is, worms go through one way but not back. I have no idea on how to construct such a thing except maybe like (similar to) a fly trap. Alex

The bad news is... you will never get them all. Some eggs and tiny worms always end up in your castings. You can pick and sort and drive yourself crazy but a few always get through. I screen my castings with an eight inch screen and plenty of tiny worms and eggs end up in the finished cast. If wanting to recover most eggs and worms.. I will screen a little bit and then spread the casting material on a bench and handpick eggs and small worms. You can get most this way. I store my castings in plastic cat litter buckets. I drill several eight inch holes around the top of the bucket underneath where the lid latches. Do not fill with castings above these holes. This allows air for your castings. You can put a food source in the top like half an avocado and it will draw worms to it. Cover with a small piece of wet newspaper. Every now and then pick a scoop up under your food source to recover worms and add to another bin. I keep the castings moist with a spray bottle about once a month and keep the lid closed tight. This helps to keep in the moisture. We need the moisture for the worms and the bacteria in the castings. I hope this helps you. Don't go crazy over this... its just part of the deal. The worms have it much tougher in nature. Their life expectancy there is very short. I can post a picture if you need one.

Unfortunately 'Gladiator' allium foliage is really tall; probably 2.5 feet; I don't have any perennials that are up enough so early in the season to hide all that so I'll be relocating it, probably behind a dwarf shrub or something. catkin, I don't have a picture of Karley Rose. I am SO bad about getting pictures and I only have a phone camera which is not great quality. But I am trying to be better about it, though I recently failed to get a picture of a really stunning accidental combination of varying shades of white/blue muscari and 'Emerald Blue' creeping phlox this spring. Sigh. Maybe next year. I wintersow allium and have had success with it. Like NHBabs said, it does take a few years to bloom, like many perennials. Its one of my very favorite plants, which might explain why I actually have pictures of them! I have some seeds for 'Purple Sensation' from a friend that I haven't planted yet; perhaps next year if they are still viable. I have 'Blue Twister' allium that I bought as a single 4" pot from High Country Gardens many moons ago. I have divided it many times and also sown its seeds. It has attractive foliage all season long. Here is a picture I took to showcase the insane amount of growth of the golden hops vine but you can also see the 'Blue Twister' It makes a really nice edger because the foliage is a low mound. Marlorena, if you are looking for a tidy allium I highly recommend 'Summer Beauty'. It's sterile so no seeding and the foliage is beautiful all season long. Its smaller so not as much impact as 'Purple Sensation' but I really like it. This was taken last year, which was its second year in the ground from a 4" pot. It also seems to be fine with being in part shade.
