Raven, I have no experience with blueberries or low ph soil. My experience in the fertilizer business has been that dry sulfer is the cheapest. If I remember right dry sulfer comes in a 90% formulation. Ammonium sulfate adds some, but you would have to use a LOT of product compared to just using dry sulfer. You can not dissolve Dry sulfer into a slurry though I don't think. If you want to go liquid it comes that way, but it costs a lot more. It would take 5900 pounds of ammonium sulfate ($1200-2000) to do the same thing, and adding that much AMS would add a lot of nitrogen and Im not sure if you would need that or not. Around here you could find a dry fertilizer outfit to bring a spreader out if it was a big enough job. 1/2 acre not so much. But I bet it could be done as an experiment even with a yard spreader, or some kind of pull behind a 4-wheeler spreader. It would just take some math to make sure you got it spread right. It would need incorporated, either with rain or mechanically. If my calculations are right it would take 296 gallons of a 26% liquid sulfer product to amend 1/2 acre from 6 down to 4.5ph.

Sharon, I think that the bee guards are wonderful, but last year I happily fed the bees because there was nothing else for them to eat during the worst of the drought. This year, there are lots of flowers in bloom, and the bees are not coming to the hummingbird feeders. (Knock on wood!) Congrats on Kara's graduation. She and Katie are making their mom so proud! Congratulations to you, too, for successfully rearing two daughters who have drive and ambition and who understand the importance of a good education. Good parenting shows in the decisions they've made. It is great, too, that both your college-educated daughters have found suitable employment because the last couple of years it seems like a lot of college grads have not been as fortunate. Annie and Ann, the GW still holds a special place in my heart. I became interested in GW several years ago when I was Winter Sowing. Then I was hosting a dinner party, and Ann came to my rescue by recommending stuffed pork tenderloin. Then I hosted a soup tasting party, and many members posted their wonderful soup recipes. Then I started gathering information from the Kitchen Forum when we gutted our kitchen. Then I moved on to the Bathroom forum when we gutted two bathrooms. I came back to look at the strawberries, and I'll pop in again soon. Thanks for the mention Ann. Annie, I'll go poking around to see what you have been up to! Not sure if you're still checking in here, but while your cat is healing I suggest you take the time and search out a new vet. Check reviews online of local vets, and talk to friends & neighbors. I would really question a vet's competence if he told me "the bad teeth would fall out on their own & not to worry!" No vet I've used, in the decades I've owned pets, would have ever said that. Glad to hear your cat was treated and is now healing. With a history of gingivitis you'll need to have him checked regularly for flare-ups and possible teeth problems. Best to have a vet that can guide you in his care.

Stunning as always Konrad!!! Funny. That is how I got my Orioles to eat jelly and oranges. Kenn gave me this idea. For 10 years they would only drink from the Hummer feeders. My Red Bellied WPs like it too and of course the Catbirds.

Cathy, I have tried for Oriole the last 5 years or so and finally got some shots.
Yesterday, a Yellow Warbler was interested in the looks, but don't know if tasted?
A young Cowbird tried it and liked it!

A Junior Hairy Woodpecker was tapping into the side...

Very nice photos Konrad. The one of the oriole with a mouth full of jelly is hilarious! I should try putting out an orange with jelly on it.

To secure it, I put two screws into the wood with head sticking out somewhat, then poke 2 holes into the skin of orange and push over the head of screws.
I only have some ants, not that it has been a problem.

I use nails to secure orange sections, the kind without much head at all. Then you can just smack the orange onto the nail, the headless nail goes right through the orange peel.

The head of the screws helps the orange from falling off in wind etc.

That is cool, Konrad! I tried enticing the orioles in with oranges like that but not the jelly on top. They were visiting the garden nearly everyday or on the outskirts, but it seemed as soon as I put the oranges up I haven't seen them...Great pics!

Love, love, love the Baltimore Oriole. I think I'll give this a try, but I've got ant issues here, bigtime. Worth a try though.
