I had a Trumpet Creeper for many years. As you've seen it does attract hummingbirds. I usually see just a few hummers in late summer and fall, after the Trumpet Creeper was mostly done. They tend to also attract paper wasps, ants and earwigs. I waited four years for mine to bloom. I'm not suggesting you don't grow it, just offering information.

More pictures this morning...it was cloudy. The female kept chasing off the male! I was out in the garden with my greyhound and there was quite a lot of activity! I had to run back inside to get my camera. These aren't very clear because I pushed the limit on my point-n-shoot digital. I didn't have time to find my son's SLR. The hummers love the red salvia, tall verbena and crocosmia.

I don't know but scott weidensaul said on the pa bird list that when he was training future hummingbird banders in west virginia along with bob and martha sargent they were catching only adult male migrators the first week of August and local females and juveniles based on fat content I just read that tonight thought that might be of interest ro you. Linda, another hummer showed up in my yard(eastern Iowa) a couple days ago. He made it through several below to well below freezing nights somewhere north of here earlier in October, so a bit of cold down in St Louis or farther south shouldn't be a problem. I imagine the big challenge for these very late migrants is finding enough food to keep them going. A lot of people have probably taken their feeders down by now. I keep mine up just in case. This hummer got lucky when he found my yard. He certainly need to get moving farther south, but he obviously left somewhere up north to come to my yard so at some point he'll leave my yard as well to continue the journey.
