Does a battery operated radio count? I'm afraid that's the extent of my talent!

But one of our old crony fishing buddies plays a great guitar fireside and I so much enjoy his playing.

Well, I'm a bass singer in one of San Diego's premiere choirs. Does that count as an instrument?

I camped with a big group of friends last weekend. We were out in the middle of nowhere with nobody camping near us so we rocked out into the night with several guitars, two drums, and a harmonica! It was so much fun.

I am lucky enough to get to camp once in a while with a couple fellas that play the fiddle and mandolin. They can knock out some pretty good vocals as well. A few tunes on the front doorstep of the "Canvas Condo" under a big sun shade turns a great afternoon into an even better evening. I hope I can get these guys to tag along for many more years. The only thing I play well is a hammer on a tent stake, now thats not a bad tune either!

As a teenager we camped out at a place we called "the island" which was a beach area on the West bank of the Wading River across from Charcoal Landing. With a couple of outboards and motorcycles parked, we had a Honda generator running electric guitars and lights as long as we had gas to burn. Typically it was Creedence with non-players reading the sheet music for the lyrics. Now THOSE were the days!!

When i was in the Army, back in '43-45, i played some on the harmonica, down in basic training camp. Had lots of evenings to practice. Never had anybody there to bother me! (couldn't figure that out!)
All went well, but on our trip overseas to England and France, that danged harmonica disappeared!
Many years later a fellow veteran told me, if i want that harmonica, i'd better learn to scuba dive in deep ocean waters, 'cause thats where the harmonica went!

One of the activities I organize every summer at my campground is a talent show. I've had people play guitar and sing. I've also had two separate clarinet players and two separate flute players this year. One kid I heard playing a flute with the radio at his site so I urged him to come up to the show. He came up and before he played apologized for leaving his good flute at home because the one he had with him was broken and for being out of practice. He then proceeded to leave everybody amazed with an incredible rendition of Jethro Tull's Aqualung. He was very talented and very passionate in his performance!

Some day if you hear Amazing Grace coming from a set of bag pipes, you may be at the same camp ground as Pipers_family

We have lots of kids with us so I always take my fluts, some old broom handles cut in to 6-8 inches to tap together.Some bells,a couple old pots and some old gospel song books.Kids beat on pots with sticks.And we all sing our hearts out. It scared me first time we had other people around us.But it ended up so great.Was like a church camp meeting.Now we do it everyplace we go,and never had the first person tell us to shut up. Or maybe we'er to loud we just don't hear them. LOL We always break early tho so we don't keep others awake.

I love campfires,as you can see with my other posts,but after reading your post I feel inspired to learn the guitar. I own a harmonica, it makes great noises. I enjoy making battlestar Galactica noises "By your command" try it it's fun.

I don't get it (that's no shock to those that know me). As a hobby I play electric bass and play occasionally at a local coffee house and sometimes with a full-blown band at church. Love it! I guess I'm weird ( no suprise there!) but when I camp I only want to hear "mother nature". Birds, wind, water, rain, whatever. But I don't crave music. I get enough just playing and listening at home ( that includes all the garbage I hear as the "Homies" pass by my house here in the barrio). I will never understand the need to replace the wonderful quiet of nature with what we replace it with.

Just my 2 cents (usually not even worth that to most people)Let the flaming begin.
