Jo, We are do tent as as cabins camping every spring and fall and often in summer. If you are planning only tent cabins, then you may want to explore Buckhorn Campground in Chicksaw National Recreation Area, some of the camp ground are close to lake on high platform, and very privacy in couple of them. Doris campground in Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge will good in spring, but may be now. It will not be crowded and deers roam freely around the tent all the times. If you want to have both tent and cabins then look for the red rock canyon state park, they have nice but small cabins. Turners falls park has cabins as well tent facility, but falls area is very crowded in the long weekend. Never go Turner Falls park in any long weekends. steve camper, checked out your site! It looks great! I added a couple of reviews and some day when I look up all of the url's for the places I've been I'll add some more! Right off the top it looks like a lot of people gave a lot of praise for places with a lot of amenities and resort like environments. One place I've been to, which I didn't comment on at the site, has tiny sites and I would never go during the high season! Two people noted how great the place is and that they have BIG sites! I just get a kick out of how we all have different views on the same place! Don't get me wrong, nothing is wrong with that if that's what you like! Just not my cup of tea! My ideal camp site has nobody around for at least a mile, is only accessible by boat, and has only a firepit, table and outhouse for amenities! It's the highlight of my summer every year!

We just spent a week in the Allegheny National Forest in PA. We took our 24Ft. Prowler. We went to the Lolita Roadrunner campground near Marienville and it was pretty nice. It was full hookup for only $20.00 a night. We were allowed to take our dog, or we would not have gone there. It was a quiet place but we were there from Apr 15 through the 21st so there were not many people there yet. That was my first trip out of state for camping. It was very beautiful in the forest but would have been nicer if the leaves had been out. There are beautiful big rocks everywhere and the streams are clear as crystal. You can see the bottom. My husband has been trout fishing there for almost 30 years. This year he took us along for a week and then went back with the guys for a second week. We have a permanent setup at another campground in Southern OH. We take our smaller one to our sportsmen's club campground for the summer. We opened the big camper on Fri and we will pull the small one out to the club on the 14th. One is an hour from home and the other is 15 minutes away. You ask why we go so close to home? We have a lot of friends there. It is a private place and only members of the club are camped there and it is more like family. Happy camping everyone.

I just stopped by for a minute and see you are coming to MY TOWN (Colo Spgs). The Flying W Ranch dinner is probably not bad for kids. The food is not great and everyone sits at long picnic tables while a comedy-musical group entertains. I thought it was over-priced since I would not choose the entertainment and the food was very basic, served on "authentic" metal plates after standing in line like a cafeteria. If you do go, go early because the one really good thing is the village you can explore while waiting for the meal/entertainment to start. If you want to eat high-end game food, try the Craftwood Inn in Manitou Springs. In fact, go to Manitou Springs and sample some of the local mineral springs. It is a fun trip to walk around the little town (a "suburb" of CS) and try the spring water. Bring your own cup! The springs are located outdoors in an area of a few city blocks. If you like the water, load up! Many of the locals use it for lemonaide. The waters are similar to Perrier with the notable exception of Iron Springs which tastes like rotten eggs. Cave of the Winds is a good sized cave to visit here. The Cliff Dwellings are cool, but they are not actually real which stole the magic for me. The train up to the top of Pikes Peak is pretty boring for the most part unless you get lucky and see big horn sheep. If you go to the zoo, be sure to use your zoo ticket to DRIVE through the zoo and up to the Will Rogers Shrine. This is a great old tower with fabulous views of the city and plains. There are a lot of cool things to do, but Garden of the Gods is definitely the best. --Kris
