Hello all! We're new to the site...I was wondering if anyone knows about teardrop campers? I am looking to build one and trying to research my options. I would appreciate any help anyone could give! Thanks Cristen

On the stove, it all depends on what kind of camping your doing. Jennmonkey mentioned elsewhere contemplating some backpacking. Most of my camping is on a motorcycle, some in a car. On the bike, I use a single burner Coleman Dual Fuel 533 stove (gas), and actually we manage fine. For backpacking there are even smaller single burner stoves available. When we go in a car, we use a dual burner propane stove, and I'd agree if you can manage the weight and space, it has definite advantages. Occasionally, we've used both to have a total of three burners, and/or used a portable grill. I personally prefer a propane stove to the gas stove that I usually use, and prefer two burners to the one that I usually have available, but what can be carried depends on how one is camping, and we always manage fine with what circumstances dictate.

About 2 years ago, i met a local fellow who is about 25 years younger than me, and he has a hard side camping trailer, the kind with the canvas covered front bunk. He allowed that he was going out west to Arizona, for his vacation trip. He bought a GMC Sport-utility to tow with. and installed an auxiliary tranny cooler, and was worried about maybe having car trouble out there on the big old hiway! He asked me if, in our many years of hauling campers and stand-up trailers, if i worried about having a break-down on the road. Gee! When i think of the used cars i'd get to tow with, and how far we'd usually go on a trip, Maybe we were fat, dumb, and happy! But--we never had a new car or truck. Never could afford one, and didn't think it was very smart to tie up a pile of money in car payments. I'd get home from work, the boys would have every thing hooked up and ready to go. We''d grab a bite, and clean up and go! Sometimes to Hickory Hills Camp in Ohio, or our Bluegrass Park, north of Kittanning, Pa. Usually if ya do break down on the hiway, a cop will come along fairly soon and get ya some help. When he heard of how we'd just "go", and not worry about the tow vehicle' he just shook his head.

Kate, I didn't want to start another thread, but I wanted to let you know that someone is selling a Featherweight in Orlando on Craig's List. It looks a little rough and lacks the case, but I bet it could be restored and I think it's a deal for 100 bucks... seems like they don't know what they have. I'd get it myself if I had more room! Anyway, if you have any quilting friends who have been wanting a Featherweight, I just wanted to pass that along.... I check C/L every day for sewing machines (and vacuums), but something has to be really special or rare to follow me home because I simply haven't the room...
