Adopted baby robin

While I was in the garden I noticed this robin begging for food. I watched and no adult robins ever showed up to feed it. It is kind of small. It was very hungry and trusting and I was able to give it a worm right away. I've been feeding it worms and berries for four days now. I brought it inside once and it did not like it. At dusk it looks up to the highest trees and finally takes off to spend the night in one of them. It returns every morning wanting to be fed. I started placing food in front of it and it takes the food by itself. It is also starting to look for things by itself. It seems stronger now but seems like it might have been the runt of the litter and maybe could not keep up with the family.

When I was six we rescued a baby robin! If it can fly it should be okay and should live. Hope you have a fun experience with your robin. Did you name it?

Hi, I haven't named it. I don't think I will. I'm already anxious to see if it is still around the following morning after it spends the night outside. I don't want to get to attached to it. The next couple of days are going to be real hot so I think it will need a little help.

Thanks Susan. I could do most of it but he freaks out if I do anything without him, lol. Patty would come over and help me but I think he wants to say that we built it ourselves so doen't want help but doesn't want to take much fishing time away either, lol. He is going to have to get on the ball because the really cold weather is coming and I really need the room to start seeds. Here is a pic of Polly or bully we are argueing over the name of course, lol. I am not sure yet if he is a bullfrog and I did see that they will eat small goldfish but mine are pretty big so hopefully he will leave them alone. I took him out of the fishbowl and put him in hubby's tropical aquarium, lol. He is gonna love that when he wakes up but there wasn't enough room in there for him. I'll look on craigslist and see if I can find a used tank to make him his own little habitat since I found out on the pond forum alot of peoples tadpoles that weren't through changing died when the weather changed from hot to cold suddenly like ours does. He is so cute. Hope he doesn't make Johns fish sick or anything until I can find him a house of his own.

That is the unmistakable terrier face and also looks like some terrier hard coat. The legs are something else - hard to tell because I can't see the rest of the body. It could even be golden retriever, just going by the legs alone. How about behavior? Does he like to chase a ball and bring it back? Does he like to swim? Is he loveable, but doesn't learn new things easily? Those are retriever traits. Does he chase small animals with great focus and determination? Does he bark to warn you that someone is coming? (And bark and bark and bark.) Is he determined to hold his ground and stand up to much larger animals? Is he independent and fine being on his own for hours at a time? Those are terrier behaviors. Is he always where you are? Does he get stressed being left alone? Is he happy being next to you on the couch without having to play a game or be the focus of attention? Those are companion dog traits - dogs like Havanese, Tibetian Terrier, and Shih Tzu. What else does he do? What are his strengths and weaknesses.

Rags is adorable and Penny has the sweetest face. It is heart warming to see a well loved pet and heart wrenching to see a neglected or abandoned one. We rehomed our current dog, Jack, at 8 months old, but he fortunately was well loved and taken care of by his former owner, who for life reasons couldn't keep him. His good fortune continued with us, spoiled rotten and the king of the house, but a real sweetheart with a sixth sense of how he should appropriately react to different people. He'll sit pretty and let an elderly person pet his head or give him a pen ear sctratch or allow a five year old give him a bear hug or roughhouse with a teen, He hasn't met a person or another dog that he didn't like and is mellow but kind of shocked when his friendly overtures are rebuffed. Our rags to riches pup was Phoenix girl. DH found her while he was working in the woods way out in the county. She had been abandoned p, probably just tossed out of a car to die and was literally starving and has obviously had pups fairly recently but was no longer lactating and there were no pups to be found. As feeble as she was she followed him all day and he got her some food and water. When I got home that night, he told me about her and we went and got her. She was in such bad shape I was afraid she wouldn't make it through the first night, but she did and we had 15 wonderful years with her. She was the most grateful and appreciative pup we've ever had and was the Queen bee of the dogs ruled puppy Jack and our male granddogs, with a velvet paw. The robin found a fallen fig I did not know about and couldn't stop eating it so they must have taste buds and a sweet beak. So I shared another one I had.

Wonderful videos! That baby seems to have adjusted well to having a parent with huge hands and a big glass eye. It will be hard for you when the baby finally realizes it's a bird and flies off. Although maybe it will stick around now that it's discovered fig trees...

Sorry to inform everyone that the robin died sometime last night. Yesterday morning I got up late and could not find the robin. I went around the neighborhood and then heard it across the street where some contractors doing work had fed it when it went up to them. I bought it back and decided to bring it inside since we are in the middle of a heatwave and it seemed weaker. It did not mind being in the container and it still ate everything I gave it. This morning I woke to find that it had died. The parents must have known it was sick and abondoned it. So sad, but it had another 9 days of life I guess. I have other videos but I'm not sure about posting them.

I'm so sorry, but you did give it some extra time and a quiet death without the stress of fearing predators while it was dying. I'd like to see some more videos.
