Shuffles, I generally plant my pole beans on the East side of the garden now, where they are sheltered by trellises of other things. For the most part, that eliminates the wind bruising, unless a strong thunderstorm goes through. Shell beans or limas go on the West side, since bruising is not an issue for them. I've had good luck planting pole beans adjacent to the South wall of a structure too; but in my latitude, that location is best used for yardlong beans, due to the extra reflected heat. Probably not a good idea to plant beans there - in your neck of the woods - for the same reason.

We resided last year and the windows were installed 10 years ago. The house was built in 1972. You guys are amazing to help and try and figure this out with me. ***This didn't start with the residing. This has been going on for years. The siding actually resolved many of our window issues. This is the last one that we can't seem to get figured out. The crew that did the siding said they never saw anything, yet many of the window smells went away after we resided, like i mentioned.

carol, I've only asked here and haven't contacted the seller about it. dan, followed the link and squash mosaic does look like it could be the culprit. If that's the case, then it's due to beetles and not something in my soil. I'll have to check out the leaves to see if there's any blistering. I read where it said commercial growers can't market squash that get this virus. I know as a home grower, I couldn't give any away this year! It's the first time this has happened in all the years I've had zucchini or squash, so hopefully, next year will be back to normal.

Dan was right it was birds! Cardinals to be specific. This is the first year I recall seeing cardinals in my yard/garden. I have never had birds do this and it is only cardinals. It happen at first light - never later in the morning, afternoon or evening which is odd. At sunrise the cardinals patrol my newly emerged sunflower sprouts. After 24 hours they are ok, they only hit brnad new seedling and only at sunrise. Odd but I know now and simply cover them for 2 days with a clear bowl.
