Yah, I'm a camper. Algonquin park is my favourite, I go there three times a year. Spring, summer, and fall. Have you been there? I like to portage, constantly trying to find that perfect fishing spot. Algonquin is also very good for base camping. So many lakes! I've been to frontenac too. It is more for hiking not fishing but, its great for a winter hike!

One year we camped along Lake Huron, at a Provincial park. We had a tent and all of the stuff needed. Our 2 boys really liked the swimming! And the park was well kept. Another time, we camped near London, Ontario, at a nice campground outside of town. I think it was a provincial park, but i can't remember the name of it. There was a nice large lake there, a nice sandy beach, and they were having some kind of country music show there that weekend. This was back 40 years or so!
Then we went to Niagara Falls, and stayed at Camp Niagara, a private campground. We took in the Welland Canal and locks, saw the tourist traps at the falls, saw the falls, And had a great time! I think the canal is more interesting than watching a river commit suicide!
I don't think we'll be going back to Canada, since we're getting along in years, gas is out of sight, my wife is in poor health, but we're happy here in our little house! Only trouble--the state will soon have it for taxes, if something isn't done soon to help us!
But, i could drive to Florida just to get warm, if winter doesn't quit soon here!

Hi Gwyn, I live just north of Keswick on Lake Simcoe. We go camping twice a year. We've been to Grundy, Arrowhead, Silent Lake, Awenda, Killbear, Restoule, Six Mile Lake, Bonnechere and we're going to try Bon Echo for our first trip this summer. Grundy is quite far but absolutely tranquil, Arrowhead was surprisingly close to us and very nice, Awenda is very shady, nice but the beaches are kinda rocky. Silent Lake was very pretty but REALLY hilly. Killbear is a favorite of Torontonians but I find the people that go there wreak it for the rest of us(no offence)the people are too fast paced and that's not the way to act in a park full of people. Restoule is far but not that exciting, Six Mile Lake is nice but too close to hwy 69...noisy. Bonnechere is far as well but is small and quite nice. I'm itching for that nice weather!!!!!!! I love camping! Lorena

My memory just told me the name of the Provincial park along Lake Huron. It was Ipperwash! I think thats how they spell it.

Hi, I've been to Algonquin several times and just love it. We canoe or kayak in and it is so peaceful. The only sign of civilization is an occasional plane flying over way up in the blue. I can't wait to go back!

My husband and I have a 25' fifth wheel we "camp" in. We can get into just about any campground because of the size. I can't tent camp anymore because of slipped discs and arthritis in my back so we carry our house behind us. We will be travelling from CA to Canada for about 6 weeks this August. We will go up through Idaho and travel east. We love hiking with our Border Collie, my husband stream fishes and I paint. My husband is retired and I will be retiring in August (hence the extended trip). Any suggestions as to good places to stop and camp? We prefer dry camping, usually better campgrounds.

We are off camping on Lake Huron this long weekend (Point Farms), sadly this is out only trip for this year.

This year we camped in June at Point Farms (has become our favorite spot)
We did 1 night camping on the banks of the Ottawa river when we went Whitewater rafting a week ago.
And we go camping to Turkey point (on Lake Erie) the August long weekend
Any others?

So far this year we have camped for 1 week in Algonquin, and 1 long weekend in Sandbanks. Turkey point is nice - we stayed there a few years ago. I was at Point Farms many years ago with my family, but haven't gone recently. I remember there was a barn in the park and they had a Square Dance!

Wow Csnucks from down South lol . Just kidding folks ! Love Camping ! Hunt , Fish all year up North here off the Chapleau Highway . Have camped with my folks as a kid at Provincial Parks and U.S. State Parks back in the 60's .

Much talk about Algonquin. Ive never been there. What province is it in? What fish , is it pike and bass, or others? Is it guided fishing, or can you fish the shores with success?
Last time I camped and fished canada was about 33 years ago! A friend and i took my 77 dodge stepside pickup to La Veryndri Provincial park, which was about 3 hours NorthWest of Montreal. It was the most uninhabited camping Ive ever done. Would love to do some camping and fishing now with my son. Any suggestions for somewhere accessible without a 4 wheel drive, for tent camping and good fishing. I do not own a boat, but would be happy to rent one if need be. Thanks!

Algonquin is in Ontario...was to late booking so did not get in there.

Well, whilst going thru the past messages, over the years, i felt i must join in the long ranging discussion.
First, Ruth and i are still living! Not camping any more, but the motor home is ready to go at any time! Can't sell it, as gas cost is prohibitive.
I remember when we went to Ipperwash Park, I had forgotten to buy my beer in the USA, and couldn't find the best hidden beer store in that area. I got to talking with a local feller, name of Charlie Miller. He said if we'd follow him to his place, he had some, and we could sit and talk for a spell. So, off we went, about ten miles, back in the sticks, and finally got to his home. He had two beers left, and sort of warm, but we sat and talked for 4 hours, and consumed his beer!
What a wonderful experience, for a guy like me who likes to sit and talk to anybody! I offered to pay for the beer, but he wouldn't take any money for it! Said the fact of sitting and talking to nice folks was priceless! But, he did tell us how to find the beer store! Best example of hiding something in plain sight!
Another time, we camped near Niagara Falls, in a nice camp on the Canadian side. Whilst eating lunch, a foursome came in and proceeded to try to set up one of those cheap blue dining fly's. The 4 post type.
Well, after ten minutes of falling poles and twisted ropes, and lost patience, i went over to tell them i knew the secret of putting one of them up, and we'd help!
I got the bum's rush, got told to mind my own business, and got fishy eyed stares from them! Well, another half-hour of trying to set it up--the poles and fabric were all stomped on, broken, and ripped and tossed into the trash!
And, they left and didn't come back!
One thing about Niagara Falls: Yes they are beautiful, but an hour of watching water run over a cliff, pales in comparison to the sights at the Welland Canal! Watching those ships cross a farmers field, then go into the lock, and sink out of sight--was a wonderful experience for my family, especially our two sons! We could talk to crew members as the ship was in the lock chamber and ask where they were from, or going! I always tell folks who are going to Niagara, to look for the Canal!

If camping in Ontario, Pinery is just wonderful. We camped there early this month and it was amazing. Park is huge, 10km long beach.

We love Lake Huron and this coming long weekend are headed back this time to Inverhuron.

Our fave used to be Point Farms. Which this year got changed to Pinery....

Algonoquin is a great place but there are a lot of great places to camp in northern Ontario, even north of Thunder Bay. Lots of wilderness camping spots beside rivers and lakes and it's cool at night!

But my favourite Canadian place to summer camp is BC! It is covered with campgrounds and wilderness camping areas. We particularly like to camp along the Alaska Hwy in the northern Rockies. Muncho Lake and Liard Hot springs have some great campgrounds and you can't beat the wildlife!
