that was a good thing ya did-donating yer hair! thankfully we live in these great times! 200 years ago you would have donated yer hair, and not lived to tell about it!
This winter has been terrible--not much snow here, but too cold to do anything outside! I'm not sure if i'll be doing any camping this summer, with the price of gas going up so high! My motor home gets 10 miles to the gallon, and at that price, i stay home! guess i'll have to build a cap on my truck and camp in the back! I did that for some time. Had a tarp out the back, a little table, camping gear, 2 coolers, a lantern and gasoline stove, and a cardboard cut-out figure of Rusty Jones, to stand at the back window at night, to keep the light out, and so nobody could look in and see me in my skivvies! And, that figure is how i got the name: Rusty Jones!

Jen - every spring Myrtle Beach is over run with Harley-Davison motorcycles. All these guys bring their sweeties, riding on the back of the bike and I note they most all are wearing a bandanna for headgear (even a lot of the guys). Now, that might be an idea for you. Should you need any insight on how to tie it, we have our own motorcycle consultant right here on this board for that advice! (LOL)

bandana...You can buy them just about everywhere. They are the ones with the crystals in them. You just soak them in cool water for a few hours and the crystals swell up to form a cool gel compress that lasts for hours! Then, just let them dry out and repeat.

Tie these around your neck...and you'll feel great!

What are these called? I know several stores that sell them. Even Wally world in summer sell them at times...

My hair is about the same length as you describe, and it really is difficult to deal with on camping trips. Too short to put up, and too long to feel right hanging down.

What you do, now, is get some cotton scarves or over-size bandannas and practice tying them. The ordinary kerchief-style bandanna works great; bring several along on the trip so you can change them when they get icky. With an over-size bandanna, though, you can tie it sort of backwards so the hair's off your neck.

Thanks for the suggestions everybody! Keep them coming! I'm still getting used to this cut but I really like it. It just won't be the easy braid or bun out of the way anymore! I guess on the upside it will be so much easier to wash! Maybe it will only cost me one quarter instead of two in the coin showers!

JEN, first of all, you did a wonderful thing by donating your hair.

My hair was shoulder length (layered) and a baseball cap was my best friend while camping. I also always have a cap to wear after taking off my motorcycle helmet (talk about a bad hair day, all smushed down, ugh.)

Also nice are those hinged comb-type things, I liked pulling all my hair straight back and then clipping it at the nape of my neck. Important not to have it in my face, especially when tending to food over a fire, plus it's just annoying to constantly be brushing it out of my eyes with every breeze.

Now my hair is quite a bit shorter which makes for less time drying it and styling it, much easier. I don't worry about what it looks like when we camp TOO much, after all it's nice to enjoy a break from having to blow it dry and curl it every morning, camping is like a hair vacation for me. The funny part is I'll feel like it looks terrible because I haven't done anything with it other than wash it, and my husband will say he really likes it that way! Maybe he needs glasses.... :)
