What did you OVERLOOK!

Haven't been hear in awhile. Busy Busy. but had a thought. So what was that one thing that you overlooked on your last camping trip? You alway learn from your mistakes, and maybe someone elses too!!!

We underestimated the cunning of the campground raccoons and thought that if we left the cooler wedged under the concrete bench that our food would be safe :-) It wasn't funny at the time but now we laugh about it! Always take extra mosquito repellent too!

Ruth would get everything together before i got home from work, and would have everything loaded in the camper, pickup cap, trailer, or motor home. All i had to do was clean up, eat supper, change clothes, and drive! Mostly 75-100 miles or so.
We belonged to a camping club. Lots of good memories!
I remember the time one of our fellow campers asked if i had seen their big white cat--they couldn't find him. Said he had been on a leash, beside their car. I finally spotted the leash going up under the front fender! He thought a coon had got him. No, i found the at sleeping on the warm engine, still attached to the leash. Keeping warm, ya know!?
Another time we camped beside a large lake, in a camp ground. A bunch of the fellows quietly moved a small tent trailer out into water about 2 foot deep, after the people had gone to sleep. The man got quite a surprise next morning, when he stepped out! We told him the tide had come in!
At one place, we told a couple from Illinois about they cows that roamed the camp late at night. Told him the might hear them mooing, and bumping the trailer! So, about an hour after they turned in, we got out the "mooing" cup, and snuck down to their tent camper, and did our thing! One of us had a cow bell, one had the "moo" cup, and the rest did the trailer bumping. Did that a couple times, but got to laughing so hard, it gave us away. So, we left them go back to sleep. They were still friendly next morning! (The "Moo" cup was sold by novelty stores back in the 40's and 50's and it had a bellows in it. When turned one way, then back the other way--it mooed just like a real cow! It was designed for that kind of foolishness!

Last time I purchased a mower looked at several brands, choose Sears because; more features for the dollar, had owned sears prior - it was still going after 29 yrs (1973 to 2002) with very few problems, but wanted to bag and could not get a baggers for the old sears ST10. This mower is used on my personal lawn and in addition I have a JD GT275 for Moms property which is 12 miles away. I also have a (1979) JD2040 w/ a FEL which I use for handling mulch and other landscaping materials in a part time business. Recently retired for full time employement and am going pretty much full time landscaping by default. Would like to replace the GT275 with a Zturn - probably a Scag Tiger Cub, because the amount of grass at Moms property and maybe do a little commerical cutting with it. I previously had purchased a Woods RM990 finishing mower for the 2040, but couldn't compete with the Zturns, so I sold the woods this spring. I've had good service from all equipment I've purchased - from sears to deeres, but like the original purchase price, Deere service is dear, but still very good. I only use purchase service when I have trouble finding time to do it myself, seems like a lot lately. Been trying to buy a JD gator TX model, best price so far is $6,150; way to much in my opinion. I should not be to tough on the TX, had it on demo for 8 days with 23 hrs my use on the clock. Had a landscaping contract where it would be highly visible - so dealer said why not. Turned it in yesterday "not sold" :-( .

I like to sit in the sunniest spot near the raised vegetable beds facing the sunshine looking back toward the house & front yard. We live in a clearing in the forest, so I have to seek the sunshine if I want it. Years ago I put a chair there & called it my office when there were just a few containers & fruit trees nearby. My kids knew that I needed some alone time in the sunshine, so it was a nice quiet retreat from being mom on duty. I have changed the gardens a lot over the years. Now there are 2 chairs, a foot stool & a side table there for my hubby & I when he has time. Usually, it's just me sitting there in the summer sunshine reading, praying, listening to my MP3 player or the birds. Last year, my guys laid a paver patio next to our 6x8 greenhouse. We have a small iron looking bistro set + a iron bench on the patio, so it's a fun place for us to sit & hang out. In mild weather we can eat meals there. It's sunnier than the back deck & I like being surrounded by the flower beds just beyond the paths on 3 sides.

All low voltage - pool door alarms, speakers, keypads, cameras, wiring for all tv components Screw less electrical switches and outlets are more than the screw in kind. Electrical outlets recessed into baseboard trim Cast stone window sills and column caps (exterior) Upgraded attic stairs - the standard wood stairs are usually not tall enough for today's taller garages Gutters and drainage...underground drainage Landscaping -ours is 10k over what we budgeted Cabinet lighting (under and above and inside glass cabinets) Window treatments - especially bedrooms to get you moved in! Special electrical - like outlets in drawers for hair dryers, floor outlets, higher voltage for big equipment like a treadmill or air compressor in the garage Door locks with push button code so you don't need keys (for back doors etc) Running gas lines can get pricey... Painted garage floor or putting drywall in garages instead of painted block Granite - varying grades....you will most likely pick out items from the higher priced patterns Tile that is laid on an angle or in a design costs more for installation Floor prep for wood floors...and some tile They always use more lumber than budgeted and we got hit with an increase! Same for stone- we need more than they budgeted Towel bars, tissue holders, trash cans, garage organizers Lots of time is needed to change your address!!! Sorry it's a long lst! Thanks everyone! I'll keep you posted. I've just painted the drywall and am having the lumber delivered this week for the floor in my kitchen. If the roads are passable after the ice/snow storm we had last week. I was looking forward to being snowed in and making some headway on my house in the "down time"- I didn't anticipate not having power for a week! SO much for progress. I hope it was helpful. I have learned so much from this website and am always willing to share if it could benefit someone else.

Rusty, that's hilarious! I used to have one of those moo things. Wonder where it went...?

The last time we camped, I had EVERYTHING, even a plastic bag full of empty plastic bags for trash & dirty laundry, "souvenirs", etc... BUT forgot paper towels. It wasn't on "the list."

We've been breadnapped & chipnapped by raccoons before, too. They are bold & crafty & apparently never full.

Same thing...paper towels. Had to buy them at the camp store and they were so expensive. Lesson learned!
