Grosbeak?

Hi! Caught a picture of this bird in the northern woods of Michigan and trying to get an ID. I thought perhaps it might be a female grosbeak, as there were rose-breasted males in the vicinity, but the pictures I've found don't quite resemble him/her. Any ideas?

Looks like a juvie Redwinged Blackbird to me.

Thanks, Donna! I'm having a tough time telling the difference between the female and the younguns. Are the females lighter in color? The pic below is what I thought was a female?

I still have Rose-Breasted Grosbeaks as well as Indigo Buntings. I've had a couple Baltimore Orioles (first sightings here) along with Bluebirds, Purple Martins, Ruby-Throat Hummingbirds, Brown Thrashers. I've only seen a few bees but no honey bees yet.

both mama and papa and 3 young ones showed up today together 2 young females and 1 young male. they tried the feeders and a pan of nuts and seeds and foraged on the ground for awhile. i was hoping to get a picture with all five together but only got three at once.

Where are you located? I have a pair that passes through each spring (grosbeak) but they never stick around long, and no Orioles for years.

here its different i have evening grosbeaks and blackheaded grosbeaks both nest close by here and they bring thir young to my feeders and at this time i have close to a dozen young grosbeaks comimg and going all day and i stand at the kitchen window watching them from just a few feet away. they do get more flighty as they get older though.

The angle of that pic sure makes the beak look shorter and thicker. It does have the darker plumage pattern of a young male Redwing, though. You may never get a chance but, the way we used to sex immature Redwings, was that immature males have large black legs and feet, even when they are still in the nest. By the time they are the age of the one in your pic, they should have very faint red feathers in their shoulders. It is often hidden. though.
