I recommend Cuore De Toro. It is listed as 89 days but I am zone 4 (even shorter growing season than you) and my plants excell. This is a great drying and/or paste tomato.
Hungarian Heart is also excellent and it is 70 days. Both of these varietes produce like crazy. They both have great flavor and make great sauce. Few seeds.

Orange Russian 117 are my favorite oxhearts. And I love Oxhearts. These are 85 days & Bicolor Red & Yellow.

Melissa asked for a pink heart shaped variety but neither Cuore de Toro nor Orange Russian # 117 mentioned above are pink. ( smile). There's also the Italian version of Bull's Heart which is Cuor di Bue and it's red as well and also a Bulls Heart, Red Ukrainian. But there's also a relatively unknown Cuor de Bue that an SSE member listed as pink which should be red and a generic Bull's Heart that's pink.

Confused or what? LOL

Melissa, we don't live that far apart and here's some pink heart shaped varieties with definite names that I've grown and liked and no problems with maturity.

I'm growing Belize Pink Heart this year. It is a heavy and early producer for me. A large plant as well.

Anna Maria's Heart is producing some nice big pink hearts for me (1-1/4 lb largest so far) with good flavor and is pretty productive. The only drawback is that wispy foliage that has my hands itching to turn on my drip system every time I go out in the garden. The other heart from Carolyn last year is Danko and it's a WOW! for production. Pink/red never made much difference to me (and then I found out you had to skin them and hold the skin up to the light... and I forget what you're supposed to look for once you do that). Anyway Danko looks red to me but it might be pink, but whatever it's a winner for production, taste and early- one plant has at least 40 fruit ranging up to 3/4 lb. It's still blooming away so we'll see if it still produces to first frost.

Anna Maria's Heart is pink and Danko is red and I agree with you completely on there being no taste difference or anything else between pink tomatoes and red tomatoes as two large groups. Each variety, regardelss of color has it's own distinct taste and performance in my experience.

What makes a tomato red is having a yellow epidermis, that thin outer layer of the fruit, while a pink tomato has a clear epidermis.

What would I do without all those wonderful red heart shaped tomatoes such as German Red Strawberry and Reif Red and Wes and, and, and. LOL

But Melissa did ask for a pink heart shaped variety.

Anna Russians are ripe at 65-70 days here when planted June 1st, with relatively high production. Plants are 6-8 ft high.

But I have to say that if your looking for a
relatively 'early' (not early like early but early REAL
sized/tasting tomato - oh geez, I'm going to get myself in
trouble!) you really should try Anna Russian.

Mike, sorry but check a color wheel. Yellow are Red are primary colors that make orange.
Pink is simply a lighter shade of red.(a tint) It's made taking white and adding a tad of red.

Wow, thanks for all the responses. I'm thinking maybe Kosovo and I do have Anna Russian seeds now if I change my mind. I was also considering Teton de Venus also. Kinda kicking myself in the a$$ because I could have added that to my order I already placed. Guess it gives me an excuse to order more and add those peppers I've been eyeing too :)

This year I have really enjoyed Butter and Bulls Heart. Nicky Crain is really good and while Kosovo this year has not produced like it usually does, the flavor is top notch.

Orange Russian 117 is not a pink but worth the space. Not only is it beautiful to look at, but very delicious to eat, the real test of a tomato. Hungarian Heart in my garden is very large, averaging around 20 ounces and the flavor matches the size.

This year I am growing fifteen different hearts (reds, pinks, blacks and bi-colors) and I am in heaven.

I'll give a slightly different response for pink oxheart. Anna Russian, Kosovo, and Wanda's potato Top are all excellent. Wanda's Potato top is particularly productive in my garden, but I am in zone 7B.

If you want a truly astounding red, try Linnie's Oxheart.

I have the seeds Darrel and have heard good things about it but I can also recommend the other one that originated with Big Red.

I didn't have room to grow Linnie's Oxheart this year but did grow Indiana Red, also a great large red heart shaped variety.

Big Red had sent me seeds for both of those which did originate with him and about one month later was shocked to find he had passed away unexpectadly. So sad.

I haven't Googled or checked seed sources but other than the SSE Yearbook where both are listed and available to SSE members I don't know of a commercial place that carrys either one.

I intend to send Indiana Red to Glenn ( Sandhill) and Linda (TGS) amongst others for a 2009 grow out, so I do hope that both varieties are commercially available soon.

Off Topic anecdote:

I have friends who are commercial daylily breeders and do sell commercially. They bred a variety that Mary said looked tomato red to her. She was thinking of all the variety names of tomatoes that she could name it and then asked if she could name it after me. LOL I said sure, whatever. LOL And all she wanted was some new tomato varieties to grow since over the years I've given her and Craig, her DH, many different ones. I named some recent ones I knew they didn't have seeds for and she got all excited when I mentioned Indiana Red b'c that's where she was born. So be it. LOL

My friend grows "Heart Of Compassion" pink, which is 78 days. She says they are heavy producers for her and that they have real good flavor.

I keep checking this thread because of all the suggestions. So many. Thinking I might have to open some more spaces for oxhearts. I could maybe squeeze in 4 tops instead of the 1. I would just have to cut out some other ones I was considering.

I did start Anna Russian this past spring, but gave it to a co-worker. Haven't heard what she thinks yet. She kept tying to explain to me the shape of these tomatoes and I said it had to be the Anna since that was the only oxheart I had seeds for(I mixed up her plants before handing them over)She was amazed tomatoes were shaped like that. I told her you wouldn't believe the shapes or colors tomatoes come in :)

Anna Russian is one sweet tomato....has some tendancy to crack a bit vertically.

I just picked a 2 lb. 2.2 oz Kosovo today, and the three or four I've eaten last week have been very good. Also the production is better than average for a oxheart. This variety is a good one for sure. This may be my biggest tomato ever !!! Can't wait to eat it.
