nest cam anyone?

Does anyone have a nestcam set up in a roosting box? I miss the ones that were posted during nesting season...I loved watching them in their boxes with eggs/babies. I have 5 or more bluebirds at the moment but I don't know where they are staying at night (despite the fancy roosting box I made at great expense!) I long to see bluebirds snuggled up at night....

I too made roosting boxes last Fall-- 5 of them.I don't see any one going in or coming out.I know that they are very sneaky.
I will be putting out some suet today and that might bring then out.It is minus 11 degrees here in my part of OH!!!They need food and shelter.

No nestcams or roosting boxes here, Ann, but the nest cam idea is one I'm hoping to implement on one of my nestboxes this spring. As for roosting, I do know that at least 2 of the 4 boxes I have here at the house are being used by the blues for roosting. In fact, in one of the boxes the female has actually built a small nest--not just pine needles on the floor but an actual nest that's about 4 or 5 inches tall! I removed the last nest at the end of nesting season and she built this one at the end of October/beginning of November. Oh well, whatever it takes to keep them warm.

They're beginning to look like birds now, not necessarily chickadees, but birds. The parents seem to be bringing two or three tidbits at a time - I wonder how they make sure that all eight are fed equally. Fascinating! Claire

Well the kids behaved while I was gone and everybody is still in there. We have lots more wing flapping going on , poor guys have to duck when someone goes to flapping, don't want to get a wing in the eye! There have been one or two that have finally decided to go see what may be out there. Nobody has been brave enough to stick their heads out , but maybe it's because whoever they are standing on is squacking get off get off! Two of them have also learned that there is no reason to push and shove to be at the front of the box when Joe Daddy comes with food....it's much simpler to hang out in back and jump on top of someone in front to get the bug! LOL. The parents are not trying to call them out yet so I expect they will go tomorrow. This time I am NOT getting up at 6:30. Last time I did and nobody was awake. Pop was up around 8 and Hussy Moma didnt even show up until sometime after nine. Boy it's going to be quiet when they are gone. :(

I have followed this hummer cam for the last year or so. Phoebe has several nestings a year. She has made her nests in the rose bushes in the same guys yard for several years now. The 2nd baby died. Last year one baby fell out of the nest when a crow tried to take the babies. It was caught on the cam.

No Blues here thank goodness...51" of snow, but there is a Downy roosting in my nest cam box! Hes just keeping an eye on if for the Blues return in the spring!Call it "house sitting"
