I just read an article that said Cedar Waxwings love wool and will make a complete nest out of wool. That is exactly what my pair have been doing. I had put the wool out thinking birds will line their nests with it, but in the case of waxwings, they actually construct their nests out of the wool. That is probably why they are ignoring the dog hair. It will be interesting to take a picture of the nest once they are done with it (don't want to disturb them) and see how it is constructed. The wool I offered probably is what made them to decide to nest in my yard as I have never had them nest before. What a stroke of luck that I had decided to offer wool. I had an old quilt that was filled with wool that was worn out so I thought I would use the wool. Good thing I did.

Great pics! What are you using to hold the wool in?

Just a berry basket (like the ones that raspberries or blueberries sometimes come in). I initially had one inside the other; one acting as a lid. I then just tied it to the tree with string. When I saw that the waxwings were just interested in the wool, I separated the two baskets and put just the wool in one and the dog hair in another. I had a goldfinch pulling at the wool too this afternoon.

Last year I just wanted to find out myself if feeding them can be done, ...as you see, they loved the sweet cherries put up on branches. They've been nesting in spruce trees for many years, just seen about a dozen raiding my honeyberries the other day, so went out and covered them up. Since these are the first berries to ripen, it really is a magnet plant for birds.

Well, the waxwings have been building their nest for a whole week now. They come early in the morning and work all morning and usually aren't around in the afternoon or evening. Don't know where they go or what they do during that time. I've continued to replenish the basket with wool and they keep taking it. They sure take their time building though. I've even had another pair show up a couple of times and the nesting pair sure gave chase. I read that waxwings will take material from other nests so I figure this pair better watch out or the intruders might start dismantling their nest lol.
