Anne, your post reminded me of one of our Blue Jays---he has learned how to call like a Red-Tailed Hawk! He will use his bi-lingual ability to try to frighten other birds away from the food I put out. They stopped paying attention to him a long time ago. I'm the only one who pays any attention to him---he settles for that!

Great pictures! It's been a good year for toads in my area, haven't seen so many for years. A rather large one took up residence in my favorite daylily bed and I noticed a "toad hut" in a garden catalog that they supposedly use for shade. Grabbed an empty plastic nursey pot and pruned out an opening and stuffed it back in the bed out of sight. (no idea whether or not the toad uses it but my large population of wolf spiders seems to have been affected so the toad is most welcome to hang around!) Wes

Dave,
Thank you SO much for those BEAUTIFUL pictures.I have been depressed this winter because I have not seen any of my usual feathered friends in my yard.I was in CA until mid December.Upon returning to OH I made some really good suet and offered it to my birds, but they are still in hiding due to the cold weather here.Seeing your colorful pictures sure cheered me up.
Thanks for sharing.

Dave, awesome shots!! That first one of the female is outstanding!! Where is your snow?? Have you gotten any yet? It has been snowing like crazy here in WI. However yesterday and today are unseasonably warm and rainy. Hope to see more of your beautiful Blues and other visitors to your neighborhood!

No measureable snow yet and today the temperature is in the upper sixties! I'm sure it won't last. Everything was frozen yesterday.

We don't get a lot of snow and what we do get typically comes between mid-January and the first of March.

Lucky you on not much snow. This month has been a record month for snowfall. 36" in our area fell in Dec 2008! Ok, I am done now! LOL!
