I do have females that look like that and I believe Kenn and Temple do as well. I have one female that has been around for years that has an all black head. All her markings are exactly like a male except very light dull orange and a duller black as well. I thought for years she was just a poorly colored male until I saw her nest building. I always thought it was funny that I didn't see any females around but always found nests. LOL Maybe someone else has some thoughts??? Cathy

Birding by ear is a very difficult skill to acquire. I know some birders that are amazing at it. They will come home with checklists twice as diverse as mine, even after birding the same spots at the same time, all because they could ID many more birds by song than I could. I continue to work on it all the time. I get rusty over the winter! I currently can hear an Indigo Bunting singing across my street (as I type this). As a summer resident, I can recognize them pretty well. They basically never shut up. But for the spring migrants- forget it! I have to relearn their songs every spring. One of these years I'll retain that stuff better. Just as you said; these guys won't make a stage appearance for us. Makes it tough to learn, especially once the leaves are filling in. Many tree leaves are much bigger than warblers and those little birds are nearly impossible to see. Most birders I know just ID them by song instead. We can visit sites like xeno-canto to listen to clips that include song variations from each species that have been recorded and IDd. These are files that are uploaded by users. You say his TV is loud and when he talks to you his voice is loud. Is it possible he has hearing problems? Because you are saying manager, I assume you rent. You said "4-The 1st a manager here was about me because he complained I was too loud. Hey, if he was right to enjoy his apartment, so was I. And I was just cleaning. But the manager also suggested me to have the carpet on my floor." I would ask the manager when they are going to schedule the carpet install. Money smart for you is to only buy an area rug you love and take with you when you move. If the room is 12x12 and the rug is 10x10, the only person it will help is the guy downstairs, he wont hear you walk as much. When folks on here say quiet hours, that is where they live. Read your lease, does it list quite hours? If not then call city hall and ask them what their quiet hour laws are. Do not call the police until you are armed with that information. Even then, they have more important things to do than you think a TV is loud. If the police come, the TV better be blasting. I wonder, are you the new tenant or is the downstairs guy new? AND, revenge noise is not only childish but you always lose.

Tom, It's so cool that you're still seeing them. I've been watching but none yet. Here's a site that has month-by-month migration on Baltimore and Bullock Orioles: Oriole migration I couldn't find any info on whether the males and females migrate separately. It appears that they will winter in Florida from September through March. I found it interesting that older migration maps such as my Audubon Field Guide from 1977 (even found other maps online as late as 1985) show them wintering in Mexico and south with no mention of wintering in Florida. However, newer maps show Florida as a main wintering ground. Global warming? I know that they like sugar water and fruit juice, especially oranges, so I' not surprised they are using your hummingbird feeders. Enjoy your birds, Rhonda
