A few of my favorites

It is raining here today and it is so overcast and gloomy that good, sharp pictures are impossible, even with good equipment. I am trying to organize my files and here are a few that caught my eye, from some that were taken earlier in the year. I hope you see one you like.

I am just in awe when I look at these photos. I think that someone could actually count the feathers on these little guys/gals. They are beautiful! I so wish I could take pics like that. Is the 7th pic a sunrise/sunset setting? I think that one is my favorite.
So actually how close are you when you shoot these photos?

Dave, I too am in awe of these captures and of your abilities! Your male is absolutely gorgeous, but you've also captured the quiet beauty of your female. Incredible.

Put the cursor where you want your pic to appear in the text. Click "Photo" below the textbox: It will open a file chooser. Navigate to the file you want and select it. You'll see a little green spinning loading icon. The icon is a placeholder to indicate where your image will appear. If you press backspace you can delete it and your image won't appear. Wait until your image appears. Then you can repeat the process to add more images to the same post, or press "Submit".

Mac, I love being able to distinguish the separate feathers too. Next to catching them in flight, I find capturing their feather detail most satisfying. Incidentally, I was between 10 and 15 feet from the birds. The lens I was using will not focus closer than about 8 feet.

Here are a few more. Most of them are close ups too. You may have to look hard on the last one to see the hummingbird the fledglings are looking at. The fledges had ducked under the peonies to get out of the rain. That shot was taken from about 40 feet.

Always enjoy your photos, Dave. I bet you have quite a few "favorites" in your collection. I haven't taken a photo of a BB in months. A lot going on with my mother and with my heart situation. But I actually broke down yesterday and bought some mealworms from a local supplier. They were a lot more expensive and a lot smaller, but I have missed seeing the blues up close. We still have quite a few in the neighborhood. Thanks again for sharing.
