I have an unnamed one plus, : iris pallida 'Aureo-Variegata'and Iris 'Variegata (Zebra- striped sweet iris) Bearded iris for me have had trouble with bacterial root rot with our soggy springs, I haven't had this problem with this iris however, don't put it in a wet spot. CLEMATIS "Guillain Blades' (P) vine white 3 inch blooms may 19 for 3 weeks the has cool hairy seed swirls. mine is part sun would be taller if I taught it to climb- label says 12' COLUMBINE (P)- pink may 19 for 4 weeks, 16 inches, part sun- blooms in 2 yrs from seed NEPETA(catmint) 'walker's low' (P) light purple may 19th and still going 7 weeks later. full sun, drought tol, collects bees that act drunk on it. shorter at 20 inches but give it room- 4 ft across! I cut mine back last year and was sorry- it took so long to rebloom- I'm going to leave it this year. propagates by seed but quicker by division. GERANIUM'Brookside and Johnson's blue- (P) I can't see any difference in these two.Neither are truelly blue. sun, floppy so I have them propped by neighboring plants so this way they are 2 ft tall. may 20- and still going so 7 weeks+ SIBERIAN IRIS 'Caesar's brother' (P) purple)only 2 weeks of bloom starting may 25, but the foliage makes it one of my favorite 'grasses'. Less fuss than bearded iris. Grows 24 + inches tall.visitor's favorite. Divides well and fills in quickly. DAYLILY'stella de oro' gold/orange(P) longest bloomer of daylilies 20" may 27 and still going on a few plants- 6+weeks can be seed grown but quicker by division .part sun to full sun. Thinking about trying in full shade- anyone tried it? SALVIA'Blue Queen' (p) self seeds. sun 20" height and 3-4 ft across after a couple yrs. purple/blue color. blooms may27 for 4 weeks. TALL BEARDED IRIS 'superstition' called black but actually extremely dk purple. lost 60 to bacterial root rot. Too much 'fragrance' for vase. 2 ft blooms may 27 for only 5 days sun Silene U Druetts ( P) may 27- still going mid July. White Dr. Suess flowers on groundcover. Mine from seed bloomed after two yrs with all gray/green foliage,came from mom's and her's have variagated foliage. 3" tall. sun SALVIA 'East Friesland' (P) redish/purple may 27 for 4 weeks. new and so short 14" sun LINARIA (A) 'dwarf fairy mix' many colors, bloomed first, now full size mix in bloom ,sun, wintersow, may 28- july 6 weeks if you plant both types. 1 ft to 18" LEMON LILY DAYLILY. These were 3 ft tall blooms with 18 " foliage but new to my garden so bloomed .shorter. Lemon yellow, sun/part sun. Flowers appear to hover above foliage. I didn't see a new thread yet, so I will just go ahead and add to this one instead. Boy, was I surprised to see all the recently 'activity' at this forum lately. I don't guess that much of it has been about SFG, though, huh? Wow... I just have to say that I read everything here on my vacation today, being it was a down day for us and all. I am very new here as you all know and immediately jumped in to contribute anything that I could. The reason that I did is because you guys really have made me feel welcome. I posted and got responses. I commented to others' threads and saw feedback. No, it wasn't, every single word, all about gardening, but most all of it was. I've learned a lot from you guys and gals and was able to enjoy the experience because of a little 'chit chat' that made it even more fun than it already was. I do understand that not everyone feels the same way, therefore I am very grateful that we've chosen to do a separate thread.... BUT, if someone says something off topic slightly in another thread, they shouldn't have to feel like they're being come down upon. I am new here and could easily have gotten offended as that whole conversation was off topic regarding my vacation to California. If I had been run off, there would be one less person willing to share and contribute to gardening on this thread and others here at GW. Everyone had some great points to make that I read all about. They all were valid points. My point is that it seems everyone is right about their points, but what good is all that if it runs off newbie gardeners? I want this dying art to spread again like wildfire. I want every newbie that comes here to feel as welcome as I first did so they will get the help they seek, friendship, etc., and continue with gardening and teach others to do the same. Maybe I'm crazy, but at minimum I think we should just simply overlook some things that aren't exactly how we would have it, so that everyone feels it's a place for them. We will never all agree. A little off topic now and again should be okay, as long as we all mainly stick to the topics presented. A big tilt in any one direction would be too biased for those that feel differently to feel comfortable. I hope this doesn't sound like rambling as I have it in my head just right and up there it makes a lot of sense. LOL ~Angela

Dianne, (SassyD) I'm finally getting around to saying a big THANK YOU for the bunny box. My son in law had given it a quick check for perishables and the stashed it out of sight and reach of the "boys". There was lots of Chocolate, definately enough to share, even though the kids had a good stash of their own. Never was a way to have "too much" chocolate.LOL There were some cute decorations to make my new kitchen counters look festive for spring. I especially liked the ceramic bird house. It was such nice colors and I'll later find a home for it outside The big Fairy with the lilly is so beautiful. That is now the second fairy I have gotten and I may eventually do a fairy garden like some of the others have written about. For now, she is staying inside and will sit on the coffee table when I finally get some furniture. She is now right by the front door as official welcoming spirit for the new house. I know I'm fortgetting a bunch of stuff as it was a big box and packed full. I made a list but have not yet gotten everything unpacked here. I only have until May 23rd to work here and I'm just pulling things out of suitcases as I need them. It was really hard to leave the beautiful spring weather in MD and return here too work. I have lots too do here but I'm missing the blooms on the iris from last years swaps and planting. I'll need to wait another whole year to see what color they are. Donna, I sure hope they come back for you. IMO, the mealworms are what keeps them in your yard and if you ran out maybe that is why they left. However it does sound normal from what everyone says. This is only my third year hosting Blues and only the first year did I get a first and a second nesting in my yard. That first year the Blues never left after the first or second fledging until it was time to leave for the Winter. Last year and this year my pair showed up late so I am assuming they both had a failed first nesting and my yard was their second nesting so there was no time for an additional one. Last years pair didn't leave my yard until it was time to migrate south either. At the park where I monitor five nestboxes, last year I got two nestings of Blues in one box. I didn't see any of the first fledglings but I did see the second ones. This year I had two nesting of Blues down at the park. Both have fledged, one pair has just laid its third egg of the second nesting and I did see three of the four fledglings this past weekend. The other pair I haven't seen nor heard from since fledging. I keep checking the box, Friday will be two weeks since they fledged. Today while checking (still nothing in the box) I did hear a baby Blue in the woods so I am thinking maybe (hoping) they are back around to start the second nesting. It is too far away from the other box to be a flegling from the other pair down there. Donna
