You would be a bit ticked off too if your hair looked like that! This is my first house that is NOT in the city, I thought I would hate living out in "no damn where". 7 years later you wont ever get me to move back (unless I am insane and in a wheel chair, LOL could happen). I'm with you, the enviornment is SO much more important than the house!

What a great picture! The magazine Birds & Blooms has a contest where they show a picture and then people write captions for the picture. This picture would be great for that!!!

Lisa, the "environment" on this property is amazing, and the house is pretty great too (I especially LOVE that it has a "summer kitchen" which I want to turn into a family room) I felt like I was in a wonderland as I walking around the grounds. Here is a photo of the yard, it's a 2+ acre piece of property and there are little secret gardens hidden all over as well as towering trees. It's bird paradise!

My husband always jokes around that I spend more on feeding the birds per month, than I do on groceries. Wait until he finds out that I am choosing our new home based on the fact that a Pileated Woodpecker lives on the property! lol!

elise, 1814 was the date of the original structure, which was added onto sometime in the 1800's, so you very well might be right. The house was originally a tavern, and that portion of the house still has the original logs, beadboard, pine floors and doors. The house is wonderful, but the yard speaks to me. It whispers my name and is almost like a big hug...it is so comforting and wonderful. It was just so peaceful and serene and I enjoyed myself so much yesterday when I hung out there for a couple of hours.
We put in an offer on the property today..but were rejected. It's an estate sale and the heirs will only accept a full list price offer, cash only. My offer was cash, but not at full list price....so I might have to give up my dream of owning that yard :( The property needs a whole new septic system, and I can't do full price and a new septic.....so I'm feeling a little dejected right now. But, I can't stop thinking about the birds and trees and birds and gardens and birds and tranquility, and did I mention the birds???? Gonna have to sleep on this :(

If this is goin to be a "forever home" then go for it!

Well, the heirs might get a wake-up call with today's housing bust and the economy. Your offer might look pretty good in a month or two if nobody else can cough up the cash. Stranger things have happened and it's not unheard of to have sellers come back humbly to the best offer and ask if they are still interested.

One other thing, did you check to see if this little bird is a flyer? If it wasn't I hope you stuck it up on a tree branch!

I spoke to my realtor yesterday and told her that I was in love with the property, but that I just couldn't come up to the seller's price. My realtor and the seller's realtor have been friends for years, and apparently the seller's realtor is frustrated and disgusted by his client's unwillingness to negotiate. I told them that if the seller is not willing to budge, then neither am I, but that they are free to contact me if he has a change of heart. So, we'll see...if it's meant to be, it will be!

Lisa, the little robin seems like he can fly, or will be able to soon....he's working on it..lol! Whenever I approached him, he'd fly away a few feet, perhaps 5 or 6 feet. I must have looked ridiculous, chasing this little bird around the yard, but at first I was afraid that he was injured and wanted to see what was going on. The yard has a lot of bushes and underbrush and the last I saw, he went into a thicket. I also didn't see any stray cats around the property, nor any other critters....so I figured he'd probably be ok, as long as he figured out the flying thing pretty soon! :)

Any updates on the property? I want you to have that land! I hope the owners will come down and meet your price....
